Hitachi Solutions Canada has been recognized for the fourth year in a row as one of the “Best Workplaces in Canada” by the Great Place to Work® Institute. This list identifies companies that have outstanding workplace cultures, and this year technology consulting firm Hitachi Solutions Canada has claimed the 29th spot.
"Our company is built on the idea of great people doing great work,” said Muneer Hirji, President, Hitachi Solutions Canada. “We strive to provide a nurturing environment where people can develop personally and professionally. Our employees take pride in what they do and it shows in our bottom line and our low turnover rate.”
Based on the five trust-building dimensions—credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie—the Great Place to Work® Institute evaluates each workplace using an employee survey and an in-depth review. Two-thirds of the total score comes from a 58-question survey completed by employees. The remaining one-third of the score comes from a review of the organization’s culture, including an evaluation of human resources policies and procedures. This offers a rigorous representation of the organization from an employee perspective, and an overall portrait of the workplace culture.
“There is a real sense of pride in being a Hitachi Solutions employee,” said Carla White, employee relations advisor at Hitachi Solutions Canada, who compiled the in-depth organizational review and recently attended the Great Place to Work® Canada Annual Conference.
“We hire the best people, treat them with respect, offer them a fun and creative work environment, and the rest takes care of itself. Our people truly enjoy coming into work—it’s very much like a family. Many of our employees are actually engaged in our extra-curricular activities such as the company book club and soccer team. This is not your average nine-to-five; we work just as hard as we play.”
At the time of the nomination, Hitachi Solutions was transitioning from Ideaca to Hitachi Solutions Canada as the result of a recent acquisition of the company by Hitachi Solutions America. The Great Place to Work® employee survey was conducted a week after the acquisition was officially announced. For this reason, the “Best Workplaces in Canada” list shows the 29th spot as “Hitachi Solutions Canada, Ltd. (formerly Ideaca).”
