The automobile industry is constantly evolving. Reasons such as improving lifestyle, growing population and urbanization, growing demand for fuel economy, and environmental concerns have triggered the automobile industry to mature in recent years. Vehicle engines are generally contaminated by three major contaminants-particles, water, and soft organics. Particulate or particles include road dust, engine debris, rust or any other hard particles. If not removed, they cause abrasion and also wear and tear of the engine walls.

The presence of water can cause engine parts corrosion, deposition over fuel injectors, cavitation, and deterioration. Organic contaminants are sticky and slimy in nature and are more common in blended fuels. Exposure of today's sophisticated and complex engines to such contaminants may decrease the engine's life and cause permanent damage to it, resulting in high maintenance costs, low performance, excessive fuel consumption and high emission levels. As a result, filters have become a very critical part of automobiles due to their functionality and low cost.

The major factors responsible for driving the demand for these filters are the increasing vehicle production levels mainly in the BRICS nations, continuous lowering of vehicle emission levels, and growing usage of personal vehicles for daily transportation in the developing nations. The fuel efficiency of a vehicle very much depends on the performance and efficiency of the oil filter & fuel filter equipped in the vehicle. Also, depending upon the vehicle class and the type of fuel employed in those vehicles, the size of these filters also change. Filters which are high in performance & filtration efficiency and at the same time with smaller packaging and light in weight are the future of the automotive filtration industry.
