LAS VEGAS, April 25, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Starpoint Resort Group knows that many people will be traveling to a variety of destinations this May. One of the most popular attractions that entice travelers to leave home are festivals. Festivals celebrate everything from food to music and literature to the fine arts. Starpoint Resort Group is listing some of the most popular festivals for visitors to attend this May.
1. New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival
New Orleans, Louisiana, known as the home of jazz, is home to this 10-day cultural feast. Hosting thousands of musicians, cooks and artisan crafters and boasting more than 400,000 attendees each year, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is truly an experience of a lifetime. The festival runs from the last weekend of April and the first weekend of May. Starpoint Resort Group suggests that music lovers of all genres will want to check this out, as the festival celebrates everything from jazz, to R&B, to rap and all other music genres in between.
2. Oregon Shakespeare Festival
One of the largest festivals of its kind, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival is located in southern Oregon in Ashland. The festival is a not-for profit professional theater that was established in 1935. The season runs from February to November and with the southern Oregon warm weather, many of the performances are held outside. The town of Ashland, in keeping with the Shakespearian theme, is transformed into an English-type village with many quaint street vendors and shopping experiences for visitors to enjoy. Also, in spite of the name, Starpoint Resort Group knows visitors will find the contemporary plays the theater has to offer to be enjoyable as well.
3. Thrissur Pooram Elephant Festival
This 200-year-old festival is one of the best ways to experience India's incredible heritage and culture, and is one of the reasons why India is so well known for its various festivals. The parade of more than 30 colorfully costumed elephants takes place in Thrissur, India, and makes its way to the Vadakkunnathan Temple. The elephants, however, are not the only attraction at this festival, as there are also fireworks, folk dancing, and, of course, traditional food. The festival takes place from May 8-10th.
4. Spirit of Speyside Whiskey Festival
Celebrating its National drink, Speyside, Scotland, holds its annual whiskey festival from May 7-13th. The festival isn't all about the whiskey, however, and Starpoint Resort Group recommends that visitors also check out the live music, food vendors and traditional dancing. The Spirit of Speyside Whiskey Festival is a great way to experience Scotland!
There are many festivals around the world, and Starpoint Resort Group encourages visitors to check out happening in and around their vacation destinations this spring. For more information, visit http://www.starpointresortgroup.com.
