Intertek, a leading quality solutions provider to industries worldwide, announced last week the first recipients of a scholarship and internship program targeted at undergraduate students pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) in the U.S. and Canada.
The Intertek Scholarship and Internship program provides up to $10,000 in scholarships, paired with an internship at an Intertek office, to five promising undergraduate students in the engineering field. In the creation of this new scholarship and internship program, Intertek intends to promote STEM education and to help inspire students to pursue careers in engineering. Additionally, two of the five scholarships were awarded to female candidates, promoting women’s advancement in engineering.
The students were selected by a committee of Intertek team members from applications across the United States and Canada. The scholarship recipients are:
- Nick Aerni, 21, a junior at The University of Kentucky studying Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a minor in Mathematics
- JJ Lemoine, 22, a sophomore at Brigham Young University, Idaho, studying Mechanical Engineering
- Chris Morgan, 25, a junior in Petroleum Engineering at Montana Tech, The University of Montana in Butte, MT
- Sonja Postak, 20, a sophomore at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) studying Materials Science and Engineering, with a minor in Philosophy
- Stephanie Schramm, 19, a sophomore in Biological and Food Processing Engineering, with a minor Sustainable Engineering at Purdue University
"This scholarship and internship program serves our growing need for engineers with skills to design, develop and integrate new technologies for quality and safety solutions," said Cindy Weidmann, Vice President, Country Marketing. "We’re giving these rising stars in the engineering field access to the skills and knowledge they need, while funding their future. We’re also proud to encourage women to follow their dreams and pursue careers in science and technology."
"By making these scholarships available, we are investing in the future of our company, the global community and the industry," said Darrin Harkness, Vice President of Human Resources, United States and Canada. "Intertek wishes this year's recipients continued academic success as they continue their engineering degree programs and we look forward to having them in our offices for the internship program.”
