Accolade Enhances Consumer Healthcare Engagement Service with Acquisition of konciergeMD

Accolade has acquired konciergeMD, a software company based in Newtown Square, Pa., to enhance its leading consumer healthcare engagement service. The service is designed to help people get the right, high-quality care while improving their healthcare experience and lowering costs for large employers, payers and Accountable Care Organizations.

konciergeMD offers an innovative and robust technology platform that will enable Accolade to provide more flexible, multi-channel options for consumers to collaborate with their personal Accolade Health Assistant® and providers. With the konciergeMD acquisition, Accolade also gains critical software design and development talent to accelerate innovation and improve productivity.

“Today, every stakeholder who’s at risk for managing healthcare costs is looking for ways to improve the consumer experience,” said Accolade CEO Tom Spann. “Our whole business is built around effectively engaging individuals and family members so that they get the right care the first time, and konciergeMD is perfectly aligned with that mission. They bring a talented team of software engineers who not only have proven their ability to rapidly deliver products with a great user experience, but who also care as much as we do about improving healthcare in this country.”

Accolade will incorporate konciergeMD’s technology into its proprietary engagement model, enhancing decision support capabilities for hundreds of Accolade Health Assistants across the country and driving better collaboration with providers as part of the total care team. Health Assistants are highly trained professionals who handle any benefits, administrative or clinical support questions that consumers may have, serving as a trusted ally and critical decision support resource.

“We founded konciergeMD with an audacious goal: To improve patient health by harnessing the power of modern web and mobile technologies to engage, support and educate patients and their care teams,” said Vijay Khanna, konciergeMD founder and CEO. “We’re thrilled to continue that mission as part of Accolade, especially as the market transforms toward more value-based, consumer-centered care. Accolade has proven its ability to drive both savings and consumer delight by building trust-based relationships and influencing decisions at the time of need. The combination of our two companies is a game-changer and will enable a new generation of personalized consumer engagement that’s human-powered and supported by the best analytics and technologies.”

The Internet of Things (IoT) is causing data centers to become radically decentralized and atomized within a new paradigm known as “fog computing.” To support IoT applications, such as connected cars and smart grids, data centers' core functions will be decentralized out to the network's edges and endpoints (aka “fogs”). As this trend takes hold, Big Data analytics platforms will focus on high-volume log analysis (aka “logs”) and rely heavily on cognitive-computing algorithms (aka “cogs”) to mak...

DevOps is about increasing efficiency, but nothing is more inefficient than building the same application twice. However, this is a routine occurrence with enterprise applications that need both a rich desktop web interface and strong mobile support. With recent technological advances from Isomorphic Software and others, it is now feasible to create a rich desktop and tuned mobile experience with a single codebase, without compromising performance or usability.
