LGS Innovations Upgrades Army C4 Center in Southwest Asia

LGS Innovations today announced its completion of the upgraded Main Communications Facility (MCF) for Camp Arifjan at full operating capacity. The Kuwait-based MCF is a state-of-the-art command, control, communications, and computer (C4) operations center serving as the information systems hub for Southwest Asia.

The secure, self-contained MCF facility provided the basis for the establishment of the Joint Information Environment (JIE) for the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). The JIE, which is expected to reach full capability between 2016 and 2020, will take separate networks within the Department of Defense (DoD) and collect them into a shared architecture. The MCF modernization serves as a model to emulate and capture lessons learned across global strategic networks.

LGS Innovations recently completed communications upgrades to the Camp Arifjan MCF, the deployment of which was a multi-year effort representing the work of multiple personnel and organizations including the U.S. Army 335th Signal Command and PEO-P2E.

“Camp Arifjan is used as a logistics base for the entire Southwest Asian Theater so it was imperative that the facility expanded to meet the need for increased information exchange,” said Jeff Fischer, LGS Technical Manager for MCF. “It is also a significant step forward toward realizing the JIE, which will enable all DoD personnel to securely and reliably access the network from any approved device no matter where they are.”

The MCF houses 9,000 square feet of usable equipment room space and is capable of multiplexing and de-multiplexing circuits transported over copper, fiber, satellite, or terrestrial Line of Sight (LOS) radios.

LGS engineered, furnished, installed, tested, and secured the Army’s extensive network, transmission, and voice infrastructure to allow for the migration of all existing services to the new MCF. The company also executed the critical migration and cutover of existing and new transmission circuits into a virtualized infrastructure to migrate servers and their applications from existing facilities to the MCF.
