Washington DC / Baltimore MSA Regions Experience Year-Over-Year (-10.53%) Decrease in Commercial Construction Activity, BidClerk 1st Quarter 2014 Data Shows

For the Washington, DC / Baltimore MSA regions, 1st quarter 2014 BidClerk data showed a year-over-year decrease of (-10.53%) for new actively bid commercial construction projects, compared to a 10.83% increase in activity for the same period last year. Total contract values in the Washington DC / Baltimore MSA regions topped out at $7.2 billion.

For the Washington, DC MSA, 1st quarter 2014 BidClerk data showed a year-over-year decrease of (-16.85%) for new actively bidding construction projects, compared to a 17.91% increase in activity for the same period last year. Private projects decreased (-28.54%) in the 1st quarter in a year-over-year comparison, compared to a 9.45% increase for the same period last year. Public projects decreased (-6.24%) in the 1st quarter 2014, compared to a 25.78% increase reported in the 1st quarter 2013. The total value of construction activity in the Washington, DC MSA region for the 1st quarter 2014 was $3.5 billion.

One notable project that actively bid in the 1st quarter 2014 in the Washington DC MSA region is the Georgetown University - Athletic Training Facility.
