For Ohio major metro regions, 1st quarter 2014 BidClerk data showed a year-over-year decrease of (-9.43%) for new actively bid commercial construction projects, compared to a (-0.99%) decrease in activity for the same period last year. Total contract value in the Ohio regions surveyed topped out at $3.2 billion in the 1st quarter of 2014, with an average contract value of $2.9 million.
For the Cincinnati MSA region, 1st quarter 2014 BidClerk data showed a year-over-year decrease of (-20.65%) for new actively bidding construction projects, compared to a 9.15% increase in activity for the same period last year. Private projects increased 4.17% in the 1st quarter in a year-over-year comparison, while public projects decreased (-48.47%) in the 1st quarter 2014, compared to a 25.36% increase reported in the 1st quarter 2013. Total value of contracts was $670 Million.
One notable project actively bidding in the Cincinnati MSA region is the University of Cincinnati -Teachers Complex. The project was designed by Champlin Architecture (Cincinnati, OH) for the University of Cincinnati. Skanska (Cincinnati, OH) is the apparent winner, at a construction value of $26.3 million. For the Cleveland MSA region, 1st quarter 2014 BidClerk data showed an increase of 19.79% in new actively bidding construction projects. Private projects increased 28.57% in the 1st quarter in a year-over-year comparison, while Public projects increased 16.67% in the 1st quarter 2014. Total construction value in Q1 2014 for the Cleveland MSA region was nearly $650 million.
One notable project actively bidding in the Cleveland MSA region is the American Greetings Corporation Creative Studios and Headquarters. It is being built at an estimated cost of $350 Million. The owner is the American Greetings Corporation (Cleveland, OH). The architect is RTKL Associates Inc. (Baltimore, MD). For the Columbus MSA region, 1st quarter 2014 BidClerk data showed a decrease of (-24.41%) in new actively bidding construction projects. Private projects decreased (-34.34%) in the 1st quarter, year-over-year. Public projects decreased (-19.39%) in the 1st quarter 2014. Total value on contracts in Columbus MSA in Q1 2014 was $833 Million.
A notable project that bid in the Columbus area in Q1 2014 was the Ohio University: New College of Health Sciences and Professions Building – Phase I.
