NIAGARA FALLS, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 05/06/14 -- The District School Board of Niagara, Brock University's Faculty of Education and MindShare Learning have once again partnered together to present Canada's National K-12 and post-secondary learning and technology conference, CONNECT 2014, on May 8-9, 2014 at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in beautiful Niagara Falls, Ontario.
CONNECT 2014 Canada's Learning & Technology Conference in iconic Niagara Falls, Canada-- is a two-day national conference which connects some 1,500 K-12, college and university educators, librarians, technologists, and school leaders with the latest technology resources that support 21st century teaching and learning.
This year CONNECT 2014 features two globally renowned innovators, Dr. Michael Fullan, who is known for his leadership in transforming school systems around the world. "A revolution is happening today in schools. We will see much more change in the next three years than the last 15 years," states, Dr. Fullan, professor emeritus, University of Toronto. Dr. Kecia Ray, president of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) will share her expertise in professional learning having recently returned from the Middle East.
The conference provides participants with an opportunity to attend over 100 engaging professional development sessions delivered by innovative educators from across Canada showcasing the latest uses for tablets with Google docs to game design. A hands-on exhibit area will feature the latest and greatest in tech trends with some 100 exhibitors, including the NAO programmable dancing robot; innovative start-ups with the opportunity to test drive the latest technology from some of the world's leading technology companies.
Building on previous Connect events, "CONNECT 2014 will support educators in their quest to enrich student learning through emerging technologies. It will allow educators from K12 to post-secondary to network with their colleagues as well as share best practices, research and proven strategies that will foster mobile personal learning environments for all students," says Dino Miele, Chief Information Officer at DSBN /Connect2014 Conference Chair.
Connect is an example of innovative 21st century collaborative human networks infused with technology that began with DSBN, Brock University and Mindshare Learning. It has now grown to include key partners in Niagara College, the Niagara Catholic District School Board and Compass for Success.
"The CONNECT Conference serves as an exemplar of what is possible when all levels of education work together to support innovation and improvement. In addition to being an annual opportunity for educators to connect and collaborate, the conference represents a key opportunity to initiate new public/private partnership and ongoing projects that foster innovation and academic improvement year round," says Dr. Camille Rutherford, Brock University
"As an economically challenged Niagara Region, I saw the untapped potential to forge a partnership with DSBN and Brock University, to transform the Connect local tech conference into a national and international tech showcase to break the mould of the stereotypical tourism and gambling region Niagara is known for. We're thrilled to be a presenting partner in CONNECT 2014," says Robert Martellacci, president, MindShare Learning.
