Dell Gives Customers Flexibility and Choice with Enterprise-Grade, Open Cloud Solutions

Dell today reaffirmed its commitment to providing customers with open, standards-based architectures on which to build public, private and hybrid clouds. Dell brings together industry-leading infrastructure, a decade of experience helping businesses build the world’s most efficient clouds, data migration technology and multi-cloud management software, all to provide customers with real solutions to their business challenges.

To ensure customers have access to the best resources and technology available, Dell has deep partnerships with leading cloud vendors across the industry, whose solutions are optimized and certified to work effortlessly with Dell hardware, software and services. For example, Dell has co-engineered enterprise-ready OpenStack-based private cloud solutions with Red Hat to give customers greater confidence when making open source a part of their data centers by delivering the predictable resource and maintenance requirements they expect from traditional software vendors. In addition, Dell has partnerships with public cloud infrastructure providers like Google, Microsoft and CenturyLink, among others.

For the past 30 years, Dell has placed customers’ needs for flexibility and efficiency first. Dell’s approach to the cloud builds on its long-stated commitment to provide businesses with both industry standards-based technology and new open-source IT architectures that deliver value today and into the future. The company’s approach to delivering enterprise-ready technologies and data center choice is evident in how it enables customers with new IT architectures, like ARM, through a focus first on ecosystem development to ensure solutions are brought to market that address real customer needs.

“At Dell, our cloud solutions are based on open architectures with no proprietary lock in. Customers get choice, flexibility and the maximum benefit from their investment,” said Michael Dell, Chairman and CEO of Dell. “Our partnerships with companies like Red Hat further demonstrate that Dell is the only truly open cloud vendor that’s helping customers design, build and manage across public, private and hybrid clouds.”

Dell and Red Hat Co-Engineered Cloud Solutions

Dell and Red Hat recently announced jointly engineered enterprise-grade, private cloud solutions based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform to help customers adopt and deploy highly-scalable cloud computing models. The co-engineered solution is built on Dell infrastructure and the Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform, and gives customers the benefit of an open cloud platform with the predictable resource and maintenance requirements they know to expect from traditional software vendors. As part of the expanded relationship, Dell was the first company to OEM Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform.

In addition, Dell announced support for Docker containers in Red Hat Enterprise Linux. This support and planned future co-engineering with Red Hat aims to provide an open enterprise private cloud model that reduces operating expenses, offers IT self-service, and removes the barriers established by proprietary companies trying to use OpenStack without providing the complete solution. Further, Dell and Red Hat will work together within the OpenShift Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) community to build OpenShift solutions that provide support for enterprise application developers looking for efficient ways to make their current and future data and applications more portable and accessible.

“Open source is the backbone of the cloud, and the cloud is inherently hybrid,” said Jim Whitehurst, president and CEO, Red Hat. “Our continued collaboration with Dell is about bringing the open hybrid cloud to the enterprise. Industry feedback on our collaboration has been outstanding, and I’m excited to continue working together to bring the value and power of OpenStack – and now OpenShift – to even more enterprises around the world.”

Dell Cloud Partner Program

The Dell Cloud Partner Program combines Dell’s end-to-end open, scalable infrastructure, software and services with the added benefit of having Dell serve as the single-source supplier. Businesses can expect centralized solution integration, control and support from Dell as well as the following Dell services and solutions:

  • Expert guidance in helping assess, build and operate cloud environments with Dell Cloud Consulting and Application Services, whether customers are just starting in cloud, already have significant cloud investments, or are somewhere in between;
  • The ability to manage single or multiple public, private and hybrid clouds through one pane of glass with Dell Cloud Manager; and
  • Direct support from a Dell salesperson to advise customers through the best purchasing, deployment and maintenance options to meet their unique needs, accounting for budget, workloads, current infrastructure and use cases.

The Dell Cloud Partner Program gives customers more choice and flexibility to select the public cloud partner, platform and model appropriate for their business needs. The Program complements Dell’s cloud focus areas of enabling private cloud, delivering multi-cloud management and supplying cloud builders.
