Telos’ Dave Kovach Inducted into the Air Force Cyberspace Operations and Support Hall of Fame

At a ceremony held last night at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, retired Air Force Col. Dave Kovach was honored for a lifetime of service as he was inducted into the Air Force Cyberspace Operations and Support Hall of Fame, located at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois.

Col. Kovach was nominated for the honor by the communications directors of Air Mobility Command, Air Force Central Command and Air Force Special Operations Command, who stated in the nomination, “Dave Kovach’s wartime leadership and unprecedented contributions set the stage for over ten years of continuous, successful combat in the Southwest Asian theater… his career record of performance, and his mentorship to those junior to him, now in senior positions, has left a living legacy in the DNA of the Air Force’s cyberspace force.”

“Dave has an unquenchable passion for the continuous improvement of the communications technologies that support our military’s mission readiness,” said Telos CEO John Wood. “It’s gratifying to see him honored in the Hall of Fame and to know that he continues, now in the private sector, to contribute to the advancement of his craft.” Kovach is Telos Corporation’s vice president, strategic capture.

Telos board member and retired Air Force Maj. Gen. John Maluda echoed Mr. Wood’s endorsement. “I had the privilege of observing firsthand the commitment and energy that Dave brought to military service,” he said. “He cares deeply about those who fill those roles today, and is determined to advance their mission by equipping them with the best tools and information possible.”

The Air Force Communications and Information Hall of Fame, now known as the Cyberspace Operations and Support Hall of Fame, was established in 1999 to honor those individuals who made significant contributions to the Air Force and the communications career field. Each year new members are inducted into the Hall of Fame, men and women who are recognized as “visionaries who guided the Air Force toward a technological and information-enabled future. Their dedication, vision, patriotism, and honor established a proud legacy on which we continue to build today's information superiority.”

This is not the first time Col. Kovach’s contributions have been acknowledged by his peers. In 2005, upon his retirement from the service, he was inducted into Hall of Honor by the Air Force Communications and Air Traffic Control Association, an Air Force veteran’s group.

Col. Kovach served a 34-year career in the US Air Force. He earned a BS degree and commission from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1975 and worked in the communications-computer systems field his entire career, serving in positions at every level of operation. He commanded communications units six times in his career, from a remote detachment to two communications group command assignments. He has served in joint-service units, on the Air Staff, at the Air Force Military Personnel Center, and three times in combat communications units. As the theater Director of Communications, Col. Kovach played a key leadership role in architecting and constructing the US Central Command Air Forces Combined Air Operations Center in Saudi Arabia and led the deployment of communications personnel to 25 locations in the Persian Gulf region during Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM. In his final assignment, Col. Kovach commanded the AF Communications Agency at Scott Air Force Base. As commander, he oversaw the efforts of 700 military, Air Force civilian and contractor personnel that provided Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance capabilities to a communications network enterprise of 700,000 clients.

Col. Kovach also serves as executive vice president of the Alamo Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA), a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing knowledge through the exploration of issues in information technology, communications, and electronics for the defense, homeland security and intelligence communities. In 2013, the chapter’s AACE conference, for which Col. Kovach is largely responsible, attracted nearly 1200 cyber and communications professionals to discuss the technological impacts on the future of DoD operations.
