SnapLogic Makes Big Data Elastic With SnapReduce 2.0

SnapLogic, the Elastic Integration company, today announced an expansion of its integration platform as a service (iPaaS) designed to make it easier to acquire, prepare and deliver big data. SnapReduce 2.0 enables SnapLogic to run natively on Hadoop as a YARN-managed resource (Yet Another Resource Negotiator) that elastically scales out to power next generation analytics. With SnapReduce 2.0, SnapLogic becomes a YARN application allowing Hadoop users to take advantage of an HTML5-based drag-and-drop user interface, breadth of connectivity and modern architecture.

“To deliver on the promise of big data, enterprise IT organizations must respect data gravity and ensure that data processing is as close to its storage as possible,” said Gaurav Dhillon, CEO of SnapLogic. “By running natively on Hadoop, SnapLogic delivers powerful application and data integration and extends the reach, performance and utilization of big data platforms.”

Gartner research states, “Through 2015, 85% of Fortune 500 organizations will be unable to exploit big data for competitive advantage.” The report goes on to note that, “Increasingly, volume, velocity and variety are proving challenging in information management, leading to new technologies and requiring new skill sets. But as new technologies and skills become more available, more accepted and evolve more, the three Vs will be better addressed.”1

SnapReduce 2.0 delivers:

  • Improved Big Data Acquisition: Instantaneous access to more than 160 data sources from within Hadoop via pre-built connectors, called Snaps. Going beyond developer tools like Sqoop and Flume, SnapLogic allows Hadoop users to access and introspect cloud and on-premises data sources in an easy-to-use graphical interface. Updates to the SnapLogic Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) Snap also take advantage of Hadoop 2.0 innovations.
  • Double Data Scientist Productivity: Most data scientists spend the majority of their time on cumbersome coding tasks, data gathering and data preparation. SnapReduce 2.0 doubles data scientist productivity by simplifying complex data shaping tasks such as transformations, joins and unions.
  • Universal Big Data Delivery: Make Hadoop data and analytics results easily available to off-cluster applications and data stores such as statistical packages and business intelligence (BI) or visualization tools.

“Our customers are recognizing the value of building an enterprise data hub, and modern data collection and transformation technologies are essential for delivering maximum operational and analytical benefits,” said Tim Stevens, vice president, Corporate and Business Development, Cloudera. “We're pleased to be working with SnapLogic as they bring SnapReduce 2.0 to market, enabling customers to leverage Cloudera Enterprise’s massively parallel processing capabilities for their big data integration initiatives.”

SnapReduce 2.0 Early Access Program

Target availability for SnapReduce 2.0 is Q2 2014. To sign up for the SnapReduce 2.0 early access program visit: http://www.snaplogic.com/snapreduce.

The use of containers by developers -- and now increasingly IT operators -- has grown from infatuation to deep and abiding love. But as with any long-term affair, the honeymoon soon leads to needing to live well together ... and maybe even getting some relationship help along the way. And so it goes with container orchestration and automation solutions, which are rapidly emerging as the means to maintain the bliss between rapid container adoption and broad container use among multiple cloud host...
Artificial intelligence, machine learning, neural networks. We're in the midst of a wave of excitement around AI such as hasn't been seen for a few decades. But those previous periods of inflated expectations led to troughs of disappointment. This time is (mostly) different. Applications of AI such as predictive analytics are already decreasing costs and improving reliability of industrial machinery. Pattern recognition can equal or exceed the ability of human experts in some domains. It's devel...
Is advanced scheduling in Kubernetes achievable?Yes, however, how do you properly accommodate every real-life scenario that a Kubernetes user might encounter? How do you leverage advanced scheduling techniques to shape and describe each scenario in easy-to-use rules and configurations? In his session at @DevOpsSummit at 21st Cloud Expo, Oleg Chunikhin, CTO at Kublr, answered these questions and demonstrated techniques for implementing advanced scheduling. For example, using spot instances and co...
Today we can collect lots and lots of performance data. We build beautiful dashboards and even have fancy query languages to access and transform the data. Still performance data is a secret language only a couple of people understand. The more business becomes digital the more stakeholders are interested in this data including how it relates to business. Some of these people have never used a monitoring tool before. They have a question on their mind like "How is my application doing" but no id...
The term "digital transformation" (DX) is being used by everyone for just about any company initiative that involves technology, the web, ecommerce, software, or even customer experience. While the term has certainly turned into a buzzword with a lot of hype, the transition to a more connected, digital world is real and comes with real challenges. In his opening keynote, Four Essentials To Become DX Hero Status Now, Jonathan Hoppe, Co-Founder and CTO of Total Uptime Technologies, shared that ...
The Kubernetes vision is to democratize the building of distributed systems. As adoption of Kubernetes increases, the project is growing in popularity; it currently has more than 1,500 contributors who have made 62,000+ commits. Kubernetes acts as a cloud orchestration layer, reducing barriers to cloud adoption and eliminating vendor lock-in for enterprises wanting to use cloud service providers. Organizations can develop and run applications on any public cloud, such as Amazon Web Services, Mic...

Because Linkerd is a transparent proxy that runs alongside your application, there are no code changes required. It even comes with Prometheus to store the metrics for you and pre-built Grafana dashboards to show exactly what is important for your services - success rate, latency, and throughput. In this session, we'll explain what Linkerd provides for you, demo the installation of Linkerd on Kubernetes and debug a real world problem. We will also dig into what functionality you can build on ...
If you are part of the cloud development community, you certainly know about “serverless computing,” almost a misnomer. Because it implies there are no servers which is untrue. However the servers are hidden from the developers. This model eliminates operational complexity and increases developer productivity. We came from monolithic computing to client-server to services to microservices to the serverless model. In other words, our systems have slowly “dissolved” from monolithic to function-...

In a recent survey, Sumo Logic surveyed 1,500 customers who employ cloud services such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). According to the survey, a quarter of the respondents have already deployed Docker containers and nearly as many (23 percent) are employing the AWS Lambda serverless computing framework. It's clear: serverless is here to stay. The adoption does come with some needed changes, within both application development and operations. Th...
