Octoshape, an industry leader in cloud-based over-the-top (OTT) streaming technology, today announced an interoperability demonstration of 4k stream resolution delivered over the public Internet to consumer set-top boxes (STBs), with technology from Harmonic, the worldwide leader in video delivery infrastructure, and AirTies Wireless Networks, a leading supplier of advanced wireless and OTT/IPTV technologies to the broadcast and broadband industry. The total solution includes Harmonic’s ProMedia® suite of multiscreen production and preparation applications, integrated with Octoshape’s Infinite HD-M™ suite of stream acceleration and multicast technologies, and the AirTies HEVC / Octoshape-enabled set-top box.
Leveraging an innovative and extensive range of adaptive bitrate, stream acceleration and a multicast suite of technologies, the Harmonic / Octoshape / AirTies solution enables telcos, operators and content providers to deliver ultra-high definition quality streams via broadband. Quality of service is preserved over broadband utilizing the Octoshape stream acceleration technologies, which alleviate the bottlenecks of traditional HTTP-based delivery methods. The solution also eliminates the concerns regarding high bitrates and Internet congestion associated with 4k by leveraging the Octoshape suite of Multicast technologies, which provide broadband best effort networks the same efficiencies enjoyed by traditional provisioned Multicast IPTV networks.
“4k stream resolution over the public Internet represents a de-facto standard for the future of video streaming,” said Bulent Celebi, Executive Chairman and Co-Founder of AirTies. “We are incredibly proud of our partnership with Octoshape and Harmonic and this successful demonstration solidifies the industries’ access to the highest quality solution available on the market today.”
“We are very excited to stand at the forefront of a new level of quality in TV standards with Harmonic and AirTies,“ said Michael Koehn Milland, CEO of Octoshape. “The Octoshape value proposition resonates with this concept by also introducing a reciprocal level of quality in OTT video distribution, as well as addressing the bandwidth implications of this new innovation via our suite of multicast technologies.“
Content is encoded and prepared by the Harmonic ProMedia solution using HEVC at 4k resolution. Octoshape’s Infinite HD-M™ provides for the distribution of the video across the public Internet globally, maintaining the quality of the video and providing the streams to the operator with the same efficiency and reliability as provisioned multicast IPTV systems today. UHDTV video is delivered to the television via the AirTies / Octoshape enabled set-top box. The combined solution represents a significant advancement in economically deployable broadband ultra HD OTT/IPTV services.
“Harmonic is very selective when choosing ecosystem associates to help us lead the industry forward with innovations such as UHDTV,” said Thierry Fautier, Vice President, solutions marketing at Harmonic. “Octoshape technologies not only represent a way to extend the UHDTV video quality out of the Harmonic system and across the best effort Internet, but also a sustainable delivery model to enable efficient middle and last mile distribution.”
Octoshape’s technologies are adopted by some of the largest broadcasters, technology and service providers in the world enabling them with OTT/IPTV and TV Everywhere services at the highest possible quality and scale. The platform outperforms traditional content delivery technologies, across any geographical region and on all marks including start-up time, buffer time, quality and view time.
AirTies was founded in 2004 by a senior management and technical team from Silicon Valley, with the strategic intent to become the market leader for the wirelessly connected home. AirTies designs and develops its own software and hardware, wirelessly streaming high definition video to multiple rooms and screens. The comprehensive product portfolio includes broadband Internet devices and Internet based television set top boxes. Its world awarded technology enables seamless wireless integration at the touch of a button, as well as 100 percent Internet wireless coverage in homes. AirTies has an installed base of over 10 million worldwide. For more information visit www.airties.com.
Streaming media innovator Octoshape is bridging the transition from Broadcast TV to Broadband TV by providing the enabling technology required to bring TV Quality, TV Scale and TV Economics to the public Internet. The Octoshape approach is more scalable, flexible and affordable than traditional content delivery (CDN) schemes, while providing feature-rich, high-quality viewing to the largest of audiences. Leading broadcasters and direct broadcast satellite service providers around the world are relying on Octoshape to deliver their content over IP Networks to broadband connected devices.
There are 182 billion emails sent every day, generating a lot of data about how recipients and ISPs respond. Many marketers take a more-is-better approach to stats, preferring to have the ability to slice and dice their email lists based numerous arbitrary stats. However, fundamentally what really matters is whether or not sending an email to a particular recipient will generate value. Data Scientists can design high-level insights such as engagement prediction models and content clusters that a...

The cloud has transformed how we think about software quality. Instead of preventing failures, we must focus on automatic recovery from failure. In other words, resilience trumps traditional quality measures. Continuous delivery models further squeeze traditional notions of quality. Remember the venerable project management Iron Triangle? Among time, scope, and cost, you can only fix two or quality will suffer. Only in today's DevOps world, continuous testing, integration, and deployment upend...
