PayByPhone Acquires Adaptis and Wins Major Paris Deal

PayByPhone, part of PayPoint plc, has announced recent developments, including the acquisition of Adaptis Solutions and success in winning the tender in Paris with VINCI Park. This acquisition and win reinforce PayByPhone’s position as one of the world’s leading providers of services to parking authorities.

Acquisition of Adaptis

PayPoint plc has acquired Adaptis Services Limited, which provide a wide range of parking services, including electronic parking permits, automatic license plate recognition for parking lot enforcement and violation notices. With its focus on the parking and transport markets, Adaptis Solutions is one of the UK’s fastest growing cashless payment processors. Adaptis developed DASH, a leading transactional processing platform that allows merchants to accept payments from customers using a range of technologies and has developed a rich suite of parking technology services around this platform.

The acquisition is a natural fit alongside PayByPhone’s urban mobility payment solution which includes parking, tolling, taxis, EV charging, and bike rentals. The deal will strengthen PayByPhone’s leading position in the industry, expanding its range of innovative parking products into permits, violations, and improving PayByPhone’s capacity to bid for bundled contracts. The combination of PayByPhone and Adaptis will enable parent company PayPoint to offer a uniquely integrated self-serve solution across the transportation sector. Announcing the acquisition, Kush Parikh, President of PayPoint North America, said:

“The acquisition of Adaptis is an exciting step in the ongoing development of PayPoint’s Mobile & Online strategy and strengthens our leading position in the parking and urban mobility sectors. It brings a highly capable team with strong client relationships and a reputation for rapid innovation.”

PayByPhone at 155k Spaces in Paris

The City of Paris has confirmed that the partnership of PayByPhone and VINCI Park has been awarded the contract to launch cashless parking for 155,000 parking spaces. Initially available in central Paris in summer 2014, PayByPhone will be extended to residential and business parking areas by fall 2014 and will be introduced to all other areas of the city by the end of 2015.

In 2009, PayByPhone became the first phone parking payment service in France, in Issy-les-Moulineaux, and is now available in more than 30 cities across the country, including the outskirts of Paris. This successful bid for central Paris follows other recent successes in PayByPhone’s key markets of the US (Seattle, Massachusetts Bay Transport Authority (MBTA) and Dallas) and the UK (Lambeth, Southwark, Chelmsford and Exeter). MBTA (Boston), launched at the end of February, is already delivering record levels of transactions through PayByPhone’s mobile service.

IPI Conference & Expo

The Adaptis product suite will be featured at PayByPhone & PayPoint’s Exhibit (Booth #501) at the International Parking Institute (IPI) Conference and Expo June 1-4 in Dallas, TX. As well, Barrie Arnold, Chief Commercial Officer at PayByPhone, will be hosting a special educational session June 1st at 3:30pm on implementing a pay-by-phone solution, and the benefits major municipalities, like the City of Dallas, realize from their partnerships with PayByPhone.

The Internet of Things is a misnomer. That implies that everything is on the Internet, and that simply should not be - especially for things that are blurring the line between medical devices that stimulate like a pacemaker and quantified self-sensors like a pedometer or pulse tracker. The mesh of things that we manage must be segmented into zones of trust for sensing data, transmitting data, receiving command and control administrative changes, and peer-to-peer mesh messaging.
