As a reminder that Memorial Day is more than hot dogs, the beginning of summer and a long weekend, a number of organizations are working together to call attention to the day’s true meaning.
Special activities at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery will mark Memorial Day and honor area Veterans. A number of groups joined together this year to decorate graves, create online profiles of Veterans’ military careers, and commemorate the service of America’s military men and women.
“We want to honor those who gave so much and remind their families that the sacrifice has not been forgotten,” said Flint Holbrook, CEO of Remember Heroes. “Hopefully, this Memorial Day, people will think about what freedom is and remember the brave men and women who defended it.”
Saturday, May 24 beginning at 2:00 pm, Remember Heroes, with assistance from Veterans in Business and local Boy Scouts, will place 1,600 floral arrangements on gravesites of killed-in-action Veterans. Flowers will be provided by Teters Floral, with financial support from NRA’s ‘Life of Duty’ online channel. One special volunteer, a local Cub Scout, is bringing along his grandfather, a Vietnam veteran from Nebraska, to help out.
Sunday, May 25 beginning at 8:00 am, volunteers from Flags Across America will place flags on graves at the National Cemetery. On the same day beginning at 3:00 pm, Remember Heroes will place an additional 800 arrangements on graves of Veterans buried most recently with assistance from Cub Scouts and Metroplex Marines.
Monday, May 26, Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery will hold its annual Memorial Day Service at 11:00 a.m. The Cemetery opens at 8:00 a.m.
In addition, the Roll of Honor Foundation will display insignia, awards and online military service profiles of more than 28,000 Veterans interred at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at the RollofHonor.org website.

Remember Heroes (www.rememberheroes.org) is a Ft. Worth-based organization that provides a virtual cemetery experience so family and friends can visit the gravesite of a fallen loved one, pay their respects and have flowers placed – all online.
The Roll of Honor Foundation has created a national website featuring online profiles of U.S. Veterans and active-duty servicepersons. Families of the Veterans can further customize their pages by logging onto www.rollofhonor.org.
