Evolving Systems Announces DSA Smartphone Application Promotions and Loading Module Taking Activation to a New Level

ENGLEWOOD, CO -- (Marketwired) -- 05/21/14 -- Evolving Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: EVOL), a leader in activation, enablement and management of services for connected mobile devices worldwide, today announced the launch of a new Smartphone App Promotions and Loading module within the Dynamic SIM Allocation™ (DSA) solution, allowing targeted promotion and loading of apps onto smartphones at the time of activation.

With smartphone prices falling, and penetration growing rapidly in all markets, the demand for mobile applications is expected to increase exponentially over the next few years. As a result, mobile operators and businesses are increasingly looking to mobile apps as a critical means to communicate and interact with their customers.

Getting an app into the hands of a targeted smartphone subscriber can be a challenge. App owners have to rely on app-store rankings or having handset manufacturers pre-load the apps on devices before they are sold. In many markets the majority of smartphones are already owned by the customer (via Bring Your Own Device or BYOD), and they join a network via SIM-only deals, thus limiting an operator's influence over pre-loading of apps onto a device. Evolving Systems' DSA App Promotions and Loading module offers operators a new way to get the right apps in the hands of the right subscribers at the time of activation.

As an integral part of the activation process, DSA today allows Evolving Systems' customers to offer personalized services to their subscribers when activating a SIM. DSA's new App Promotions and Loading module takes that personalization to another level: offering the subscriber relevant and targeted apps to improve their mobile experience, and giving the operator a new way to get apps on their BYOD smartphones.

"Getting mobile apps loaded on the device is becoming the holy grail for many businesses," said Thad Dupper, Chairman and CEO of Evolving Systems. "DSA's new feature will now enable operators -- and businesses -- to promote and load apps onto a smartphone during the activation experience, where our research indicates the subscriber's attention is intensely focused on the device. For example, businesses like Starbucks, Uber or Facebook who are keenly interested in adding mobile users could leverage the DSA App Promotions and Loading module to get their apps onto the subscriber's device -- during the activation experience."

DSA has been chosen by mobile operators across Asia, Europe, Africa, and Central and Latin America, becoming the new standard for activating SIM cards and effectively activating millions of new SIM cards each month -- removing unnecessary costs for operators, and opening up new opportunities to improve the mobile subscriber's experience.
