Today, Maxime Bernier, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism) (Agriculture), highlighted the concrete actions taken by the Government of Canada in support of the Canadian tourism industry's efforts to attract international visitors during an address at Rendez-vous Canada.
While reinforcing the importance of the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC) in the promotion of Canada's tourism brand abroad, the Minister of State also encouraged the international buyers in attendance to take advantage of networking opportunities and to learn about the unique experiences that Canada has to offer.
-- Tourism revenues, GDP and employment all experienced growth in 2013. -- In 2013, tourism revenues in Canada grew by 3% to over $84 billion. -- In 2013, Canada received 16.6 million overnight trips by non-residents, an increase of 1.5% from 2012. -- The number of tourism jobs in 2013 reached 618,100, an increase of 1.4%, compared to 2012.
