HomeGrid Forum Accredits Lab and Awards First MIMO Certification

TRaC Global Accredited for MIMO Testing, Marvell G.hn Chipset MIMO Certified

BEAVERTON, OR -- (Marketwired) -- 06/04/14 --

News Highlights

  • HomeGrid accredits TRaC Global to test for G.hn MIMO compliancy
  • Marvell Semiconductor G.hn chipset is awarded first HomeGrid G.hn MIMO certification
  • MIMO enhancement increases network coverage and robustness throughout the home

HomeGrid Forum's Board of Directors today announced two advances in wired home networks, with the accreditation of test house TRaC Global (TRaC) to perform MIMO testing of G.hn silicon and systems, and the successful certification of Marvell Semiconductor's (Marvell) G.hn silicon for MIMO operation over powerlines.

While G.hn networks are already considered a future-proof investment, adding MIMO to G.hn's powerline mode establishes an even higher level of performance and service quality. With the growing demand for increasingly complex and higher rate content delivery, MIMO's capabilities assure high quality of service with an excellent customer experience.

The HomeGrid compliance and interoperability (C&I) Work Group completed the MIMO test specification in April 2014 as TRaC prepared for MIMO testing. HomeGrid audited and approved TRaC in mid-May; making TRaC "open for business" for MIMO testing. Marvell immediately submitted its G.hn chipset for MIMO certification.

Marvell's G.hn chipset (consisting of the Marvell 88LX3142 G.hn digital baseband processor and Marvell 88LX2718 G.hn analog frontend) passed the tests and was awarded MIMO certification by HomeGrid. The Marvell chipset's certifications have been updated to include MIMO on HomeGrid's Integrators List.

John Egan, president of HomeGrid, said, "We congratulate HomeGrid's C&I Work Group for continuing to set records for delivery of the highest quality test specifications and also TRaC, for demonstrating once again their capabilities by quickly adding MIMO testing."

Egan continued, "HomeGrid congratulates Marvell on the addition of MIMO certification to their G.hn chipset's portfolio. With these advances, G.hn is the first wired home networking technology to have an operational MIMO certification test regimen and the first with a certified MIMO chipset. G.hn MIMO certification reinforces G.hn's industry leadership in verified and certified functionalities, interoperability and deliverables."

Philip Poulidis, Vice-President and GM of the Internet of Things Business Unit of Marvell, said, "We are proud that Marvell's G.hn chipset has achieved HomeGrid Forum's certification for MIMO. Our G.hn chipset was one of the first to market over two years ago, with MIMO built in, and is the world's first certified powerline MIMO chipset. Marvell's G.hn chipset enables system companies to satisfy the needs of service providers to enable next-generation networked homes."

HomeGrid Forum's comprehensive G.hn home networking demonstrations are on display at Computex Taipei, Taiwan, 03-07 June 2014. HomeGrid's booth is located in Taipei World Trade Center (TWTC) exhibition hall 1 on the first floor, booth A0926. Fundamentally, SDN is still mostly about network plumbing. While plumbing may be useful to tinker with, what you can do with your plumbing is far more intriguing. A rigid interpretation of SDN confines it to Layers 2 and 3, and that's reasonable. But SDN opens opportunities for novel constructions in Layers 4 to 7 that solve real operational problems in data centers. "Data center," in fact, might become anachronistic - data is everywhere, constantly on the move, seemingly always overflowing. Net...
What do a firewall and a fortress have in common? They are no longer strong enough to protect the valuables housed inside. Like the walls of an old fortress, the cracks in the firewall are allowing the bad guys to slip in - unannounced and unnoticed. How do APIs and IoT relate? The answer is not as simple as merely adding an API on top of a dumb device, but rather about understanding the architectural patterns for implementing an IoT fabric. There are typically two or three trends: Exposing the device to a management framework Exposing that management framework to a business centric logic Exposing that business layer and data to end users. This last trend is the IoT stack, which involves a new shift in the separation of what stuff happe...
The definition of IoT is not new, in fact it’s been around for over a decade. What has changed is the public's awareness that the technology we use on a daily basis has caught up on the vision of an always on, always connected world. It's the vision of a world in which continuous Internet connectivity and addressability is embedded into a growing range of human artifacts, into the natural world, and even into our smartphones, appliances, a...

We are reaching the end of the beginning with WebRTC, and real systems using this technology have begun to appear.
