Dais Analytic Achieves Industry-Changing Dehumidification Success

Dais Analytic Has Successfully Demonstrated a Refrigerant-Free Dehumidification Process That Doesn't Change the Air Temperature in a Joint Project Supported by the US Department of Energy and the US Navy

TAMPA, FL -- (Marketwired) -- 06/09/14 -- Dais Analytic Corporation (OTCQB: DLYT), a nanotechnology materials and process company focused on commercializing its technology in the worldwide energy and water markets, announced it successfully achieved the technical goals of its second Department of Energy (DoE) Advanced Research Projects Agency - Energy (ARPA-E) project on time and under budget.

Dais used its family of Aqualyte™ nanomaterials to construct and demonstrate an industry-changing dehumidifying unit that removes moisture from air without significantly changing the temperature of the air being processed.

This novel dehumidification process is enabled by Aqualyte™ materials and their ability to efficiently move water molecules while restricting other air molecules, and is a key part of Dais' new NanoAir™ line of Heating, Ventilating, Air-Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) products. The US Department of Energy calculates that HVACR equipment accounts for 27% of the primary energy consumed in the US(1). Projected savings from NanoAir™ will reduce that energy usage, providing a significant economic and environmental impact.

There are three notable impacts of NanoAir™ dehumidification:

  • Most forms of dehumidification use man-made refrigerants (CFCs, HCFCs, or HFCs) that are potent greenhouse gases linked to climate change. Aqualyte™ membranes allow direct removal of humidity without refrigerants.

  • Membrane dehumidification removes moisture from the air with little or no change in air temperature, decoupling humidity control from temperature control. Traditional dehumidification cools air until it is unable to hold its moisture, making it impossible to dehumidify the air without reducing its temperature.

  • Independent humidity control allows membrane dehumidification to be combined with various cooling technologies to create innovative new systems that reduce energy consumption. For instance, inexpensive evaporative cooling that is traditionally limited to desert climates can be used in humid environments once the air has been dehumidified. Membrane dehumidification works with current air conditioners to control temperature and humidity independently for more comfortable living environments at lower energy costs. The lower energy usage reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions which are damaging to the environment and our health.

"Controlling the humidity in a room without necessarily reducing the temperature will allow us to eliminate the cold, clammy conditions so often associated with air conditioning today, making users more comfortable and systems up to 50% more energy efficient than they are today," according to Brian Johnson, CTO of Dais.

"Membrane dehumidification can be combined with energy efficient evaporative cooling to create systems that operate in humid environments without using conventional refrigerants at all," says Stephen Baxter, Director of Engineering and Quality at Dais.

The Company is now focused on the development of the heating/cooling section of its NanoAir™ product line and is in the process of introducing this game changing technology into commercial markets.

About Dais Analytic Corporation

Dais Analytic Corporation (OTCQB: DLYT) is commercializing its innovative Aqualyte™ family of nano-structured materials and processes focusing on evolutionary or disruptive air, energy and water applications. The uses include:

  • ConsERV™, a commercially available engineered energy recovery ventilator (an HVAC product) useful for efficient management of ventilation air's temperature and moisture content using the energy found in the outgoing 'stale' air stream to pre-condition the incoming fresh air often saving energy, CO2, and allowing for equipment downsizing;

  • NanoAir™, an early beta-stage water-based, no fluorocarbon producing refrigerant cooling cycle useful to replace the existing gas based compression cooling cycle in most all forms of air-conditioning and refrigeration saving a projected 50% in energy and CO2;

  • NanoClear™, an early beta-stage method for treating contaminated water (sea, waste, industrial) to provide 1,000 times cleaner potable water; and;

  • NanoCAP™, which holds promise to use the Aqualyte™ family to form a disruptive non-chemical energy-storage device (an ultra-capacitor) when completed for use in transportation, renewable energy, and 'smart grid' configurations.

Each use demonstrates the diversity of Dais' core product -- Aqualyte™ -- the family of nano-structured polymers and engineered processes having a focus on minimizing consumption of irreplaceable natural resources, and ending the degradation of our environment.
