TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 06/09/14 -- Editors Note: There is a video associated with this press release.
The Redpath Waterfront Festival will be the spot for the 2014 DockDogs® World Qualifying Championships - which dog will be Top Dog in Toronto?
DockDogs - The fastest growing sport on four legs
You've seen them on YouTube, ABC, ESPN, the Outdoor Channel, Facebook and in the Guinness Book of World Records. They are the dogs that love to compete - leaping from a 40-foot dock into a 27,000 gallon pool to find out who can swim fastest or jump highest and furthest. Over 135 dogs are registered for this event, with competitors coming from across Canada and the US.
The action is non-stop
Admission to the Championships, which are being held at Sherbourne Common, is free. Qualifying rounds run from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Friday and Saturday; the finals take place on Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
"This is a serious sporting event for all contenders," says Mike Chiasson, president of DockDogs® Canada. "And for everyone else it's a whole lot of fun - especially if you're watching from the Splash Zone!"
Each day, after the scheduled events, Festival visitors may register their own dogs for a $15 fee and bring them to the pool to find out if they are champions in the making. Can the family pooch leap 8 feet high to catch a flying toy? Or soar 30 feet through the air before hitting the water? You never know!
2014 DockDogs® World Qualifying Championships are presented by the Toronto Port Authority, and will feature top canine record holders for Big Air, Extreme Vertical, Speed Retrieve and Iron Dog events. The competition is open to dogs of all sizes and breeds between the ages of 6 months and 8 years. Registration and entry fee information for the Championships is available on the Redpath Waterfront Festival web site towaterfrontfest.com/dockdogs/.
Something for everyone at the 2014 Redpath Waterfront Festival
"This Festival brings families and friends to the waterfront where there is something for everyone," said Peter Toppazzini, Director of Sales, Redpath Sugar, and Chair of the Waterfront Festival.
The Festival is also host to the 2014 Flyboard® North American Championships. With points for double back flips, height and dolphin dives, flyboarding is bigger, better and higher than ever.
The Toronto Wine & Spirit Festival, a first time partner with the Redpath Waterfront Festival, will be located at Sugar Beach. Visitors can relax by the water and sample the latest beverage trends while the EMERGE Artists Showcase 'Makes it Funky' and entertains the crowd with sounds from the hottest new musical talent in Toronto.
Families and kids can enjoy the adventure filled KIDS ZONE at HTO Park East. There will be tons of fun and interactive activities for all ages including Parks Canada crafts, Voyageur Canoes, AdventureMania Inflatables and more!
