Glenfiddich Supports Wounded Warriors Canada Battlefield Bike Ride

JUNO BEACH, FRANCE -- (Marketwired) -- 06/10/14 -- Editor's Note: There is a photo associated with this release.

Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch is proudly participating in the inaugural Wounded Warriors Canada Battlefield Bike Ride across France. The first stop of the eight day tour to raise awareness and funds for Wounded Warriors Canada saw participating bike riders arrive at Juno Beach on June 6th, 70 years to the day after Canadian troops landed there in World War II.

Glenfiddich has been in partnership with Wounded Warriors Canada since 2012, and in 2013 changed the packaging of the Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Solera to reflect their support for Wounded Warriors Canada. The ongoing fundraising campaign donates $2 from every bottle of Glenfiddich 15 Year Old Solera sold across Canada. In 2014, all proceeds from the Glenfiddich fundraising initiative will wholly support Can Praxis, Canada's national leader in equine therapy for Canadian veterans and their families. Proceeds from the Wounded Warriors Battlefield Bike Ride will be directed towards animal assisted therapy programs supported by Wounded Warriors Canada.

Bike ride participant and National Brand Manager for Glenfiddich Canada, Beth-Anne Thomas, was moved upon her arrival at Juno Beach, "We've had so many memorable experiences while raising awareness for Wounded Warriors Canada, I'm humbled and moved to stand in the footsteps of Canada's World War II troops alongside our current service men and women." says Thomas, "It's an honour to be included here at Juno Beach with the Wounded Warriors family. As a family run company, Glenfiddich is inspired to continue to make significant contributions to the Wounded Warriors Canada programs that support Canadian soldiers."

Over 130 Canadians, composed of serving and retired Canadian Armed Forces members and civilians, will combine cycling through rolling French countryside with the gravitas of walking in the footsteps of past Canadian troops of World War II on the eight day tour. Scott Maxwell, Executive Director of Wounded Warriors Canada, commented, "Not only is this ride a bucket list experience for all involved, this group of Canadians will be riding in honour of those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while raising much needed funds in support of the vital programs that help those living with mental health injuries."

The Battlefield Bike Ride marks the 70th anniversary of D-Day with a 750km journey from Juno Beach to Vimy Ridge to raise awareness and funds for Canadian Forces members - be they full time or reservists - who have been wounded or injured in their service to Canada.
