Plastic Surgeon in Phoenix Advises on When to Receive Breast Lift Surgery

Dr. Steven Turkeltaub of the Arizona Center for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Details Important Information for Patients Considering Mastopexy

PHOENIX, AZ -- (Marketwired) -- 06/10/14 -- "Whether it's a lift with an enlargement, a lift with a slight reduction, or simply a lift by itself, breast lift surgery (mastopexy) is the procedure of choice for women who have droopy breasts and are seeking to rejuvenate their appearance," writes Phoenix plastic surgeon Steven H. Turkeltaub, MD to begin a recent blog post. The article, titled Candidacy for Breast Lift Surgery, goes on to highlight when prospective mastopexy patients should ideally proceed with surgery.

According to Dr. Turkeltaub, patients considering a mastopexy should be at or close to their goal weight prior to surgery in order to help ensure the most precise and longest-lasting outcomes. "If breast lift surgery is performed before a significant amount of weight is lost," he says, "the same amount of skin will be present overlying smaller breast volumes which can result in more rapid drooping, a less shapely appearance and a smaller result than had been desired."

Regarding timing of surgery in relation to motherhood, the Phoenix plastic surgeon notes that breast lift candidates span from those who have not had children to those who have waited years after having kids before considering surgery, so there is not a definitive timeframe. However, should the prospective patient be a new mother, he says she should typically wait at least three to six months after giving birth and/or the cessation of breast feeding before undergoing the operation.

With respect to the actual breast lift procedure, Dr. Turkeltaub expands upon four techniques he utilizes at his practice in a second blog post aptly titled Breast Lift Techniques. The four different approaches he offers include:

  • Mini Lift
  • Periareolar Lift (Periareolar Mastopexy)
  • Lollipop Mastopexy
  • Inverted-T (Anchor-Shaped Mastopexy)

Dr. Turkeltaub states that the technique he employs will ultimately depend on the extent of drooping present in the breasts. However, he notes that he most commonly performs the inverted-T technique for women who have more than a minimal amount of sagging because he strongly feels the results realized with this approach are typically the most natural-looking.

In the end, Dr. Turkeltaub concludes the post by expressing his dedication to ensuring each patient achieves the best possible results from her breast lift surgery: "I find that it is crucial to be extremely thorough and meticulous in assessing each woman's individual situation, in determining what would provide her with the outcome that she is seeking and then in the performance of the surgery. Anything less than that to me is unacceptable."
