Additionally, the company will be hosting a gathering at CommunicAsia entitled “Less Space Segment, More Throughput” on Thursday, June 19, from 10:00 am to Noon on Level 3 of the conference center, Heliconia Room 3501A. Colin Mackay, Vice President of Modem Engineering for Paradise, will lead guests through a ‘deep dive’ into these advancements in modem technology and how they can be leveraged to make service delivery more profitable to the bottom line. The event is free, and guests may register to attend here.
“The Paradise modem engineering team continues to keep our company and its modem technologies at the absolute forefront of the industry. For example, our flagship modem, Q-Flex, is optimized to facilitate the mass migration to IP as the transport technology of choice,” said Tony Radford, VP of Sales for Paradise. “It can transmit the highest number of packets per second in the least amount of satellite bandwidth, all in a single box and at a fraction of our competitors’ price.”
Among the many topics Mackay will cover at the event and in the booth: the software-defined Q-Flex™ ‘universal modem’; the new highly-efficient DVB-S2X standard; cost-effective point-to-multipoint using the new Q-MultiFlex™ multi-demodulator; Carrier ID; cleaning up links by compensating for the effects of non-linear distortion; the compact Q-Lite™ modem for comms-on-the-move (COTM); the unique Q-NET Bandwidth Manager that solves the VSAT vs. SCPC dilemma for operators; Signal-Under-Carrier interference detection, and much more.
The Paradise line of modem solutions are used worldwide for nearly all satcom applications including cellular backhaul, video broadcasting, airborne and man-pack applications, and more. In addition to highlighting its powerful modem technologies, Paradise will also showcase its PowerMAX™ SSPA system, an ultra-high power SSPA ideal for multi-channel DTV broadcasts and high data-rate IP gateways. PowerMAX amps, based on a complete line of GaN devices, reach unprecedented levels of output power and deliver maximum efficiency and reliability.
Among the Paradise modem technologies that will be displayed:
- Q-Flex, the industry’s most powerful IP-centric, software-defined modem providing IF and L-band operation in a single unit. Q-Flex ‘future-proofs’ your network by doing feature updates with software upgrades via Ethernet or memory stick.
- Q-FlexV, a new video broadcast modem that is specifically tooled for ASI and IP DVB broadcasts and has by far the greatest Performance-to-Price ratio of modem product in the industry. It is a single-box solution supporting both DVB-S2 and its successor, DVB-S2X, operates at data rates up to 155 Mbps, has Dual IF/L-band operation, Carrier ID and more at a fraction of the cost and complexity of alternatives.
- Q-Lite, a compact version of Q-Flex, is a single-board modem for Comms-on-the-Move designed for simple mechanical integration into OEM products. With a form factor of 255mm x 184mm, Q-Lite consumes one-third the power of Q-Flex making it a perfect fit for airborne and mini-flyaway applications.
- Q-NET, a novel bandwidth management system that leverages Q-Flex to deliver to operators both the highly efficient throughput of SCPC and the high utilization of VSAT.

Collecting data in the field and configuring multitudes of unique devices is a time-consuming, labor-intensive process that can stretch IT resources. Horan & Bird [H&B], Australia’s fifth-largest Solar Panel Installer, wanted to automate sensor data collection and monitoring from its solar panels and integrate the data with its business and marketing systems. After data was collected and structured, two major areas needed to be addressed: improving developer workflows and extending access to a b...

When an enterprise builds a hybrid IaaS cloud connecting its data center to one or more public clouds, security is often a major topic along with the other challenges involved. Security is closely intertwined with the networking choices made for the hybrid cloud. Traditional networking approaches for building a hybrid cloud try to kludge together the enterprise infrastructure with the public cloud. Consequently this approach requires risky, deep "surgery" including changes to firewalls, subnets...

2015 predictions circa 1970: houses anticipate our needs and adapt, city infrastructure is citizen and situation aware, office buildings identify and preprocess you. Today smart buildings have no such collective conscience, no shared set of fundamental services to identify, predict and synchronize around us. LiveSpace and M2Mi are changing that. LiveSpace Smart Environment devices deliver over the M2Mi IoT Platform real time presence, awareness and intent analytics as a service to local connecte...

The term culture has had a polarizing effect among DevOps supporters. Some propose that culture change is critical for success with DevOps, but are remiss to define culture. Some talk about a DevOps culture but then reference activities that could lead to culture change and there are those that talk about culture change as a set of behaviors that need to be adopted by those in IT. There is no question that businesses successful in adopting a DevOps mindset have seen departmental culture change, ...
