REMINDER/Media Advisory: Legion Convention Opening Ceremonies

EDMONTON, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/14/14 -- There will be a parade of some 1,200 Legion delegates starting at 1:15p.m. on June 15th. The parade will depart from the corner of 100 Street NW and 104 Avenue NW, proceed down 99 Street NW to the Cenotaph at the City Hall Plaza where a wreath laying ceremony will be conducted.

Following this ceremony the parade will proceed to the Shaw Conference Centre where the Convention will be formally opened by Larry Murray, the Legion's Grand President at Hall A-B, at approximately 3:00p.m. Joining him will be the Hon. Julian Fantino, Minister of Veterans Affairs, Hon. Doug Horner, Minister of Finance for the Province of Alberta, and elected officials representing all three levels of government from the Edmonton area.

Representatives from the general public and media are invited to attend the parade and the wreath laying ceremony. The media are also invited to attend the formal opening ceremonies of the Convention at 3pm.

This year's National Silver (Memorial) Cross Mother, Mrs. Niki Psiharis of Laval, Que., will lay a wreath on behalf of the Mothers of Canada. Wreaths will also be laid by dignitaries from: Veterans Affairs Canada, the Canadian Armed Forces, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Government of Alberta, the City of Edmonton, The Royal Canadian Legion and the Alberta / Northwest Territories Command of the RCL.
