Actifio, the copy data virtualization company, today announced Actifio Resiliency Director™, a complete solution for non-disruptive application recovery and test environment creation from the datacenter to the Cloud. Actifio Resiliency Director – working in conjunction with Actifio CDS and Actifio Sky for public, private or hybrid cloud-based recovery – allows enterprises to restore critical business functionality faster and cheaper than before possible, orchestrating compute, network, and data at a cloud service provider or enterprise disaster recovery site and validating the result. In live tests using a commodity-type infrastructure, provided by Sungard Availability Services (Sungard AS), a leading provider of managed recovery services, Actifio demonstrated its ability to successfully recover 100’s of VMs in less than 20 minutes. Users could increase recovery times further by using higher performance application infrastructure.
To date more than 400 enterprises and cloud service providers (CSP) across 34 countries have chosen Actifio’s Copy Data Virtualization platform and now Resiliency Director for business agility, resiliency, and access to the cloud for their most critical application platforms including SAP, Oracle, VMware, HP-UX, AIX, iSeries, and Microsoft.
Building on 30 years of delivering high availability services and with approximately 8,000 customers, Sungard AS has pioneered launching a new Actifio Resiliency Director-based service. “Sungard AS’ new Recover2Cloud services leverage the power of Actifio’s copy data virtualization platform and Actifio Resiliency Director to deliver a differentiated suite of cloud resiliency offerings,” said Souvik Choudhury, Vice President of Product Management, Recovery Services at Sungard AS. “We’re excited by the demand for these new capabilities because it helps our customers achieve many of their strategic priorities, from a single platform.”
Resiliency Director leverages Actifio’s core Virtual Data Pipeline (VDP) technology and extends the Copy Data Virtualization platform. Just as other technologies have virtualized compute and networking, Actifio virtualizes data - decoupling increasingly strategic enterprise data from increasingly commoditized enterprise infrastructure. IDC estimates the worldwide market for products and services in this space, which it refers to as copy data management, at $46 Billion this year.
“In order to support business operations resilience, a growing number of organizations must now support aggressive IT service recovery times of less than four hours and IT service availability levels of 99.5% or better,” noted Gartner Research Vice President, John Morency. “In addition to IT service failover management, IT service continuity managers must ensure that their data center technology and management process portfolio is well-rounded so that IT service continuity management is both effective and sustainable.”*
Using Actifio Resiliency Director, today’s enterprises are able to dramatically improve application availability and resiliency, eliminating errors that are often introduced while undertaking manual tasks to recover applications. Because the disaster recovery process – from testing to actual execution – can be thoroughly automated, the time spent on recovering large numbers of applications and virtual machines is collapsed from days to minutes. As a result, Actifio helps companies focus on managing their applications, not only their recoveries.
About Resiliency Director™
The first of a new family of services, Actifio Resiliency Director builds on the capabilities of the Actifio CDS and Actifio Sky platforms. Offered as a service as part of the Actifio CDS and Actifio Sky platforms, Actifio Resiliency Director provides:

"Actifio Resiliency Director is part of a portfolio of services designed to make it even easier for our customers and cloud service providers to capture, manage and use data - delivering unprecedented service levels,” said Ash Ashutosh, CEO, Actifio. “It is no longer acceptable for businesses to spend massive amounts of time and money – or worse, ignore all together – managing business critical processes like ensuring data is recoverable in the event of an application failure. Information is the lifeblood of today’s enterprises and Actifio is pioneering platforms and solutions to address data management requirements.”

The web app is Agile. The REST API is Agile. The testing and planning are Agile. But alas, Data infrastructures certainly are not. Once an application matures, changing the shape or indexing scheme of data often forces at best a top down planning exercise and at worst includes schema changes which force downtime. The time has come for a new approach that fundamentally advances the agility of distributed data infrastructures. Come learn about a new solution to the problems faced by software orga...

The OpenStack cloud operating system includes Trove, a database abstraction layer. Rather than applications connecting directly to a specific type of database, they connect to Trove, which in turn connects to one or more specific databases. One target database is Postgres Plus Cloud Database, which includes its own RESTful API. Trove was originally developed around MySQL, whose interfaces are significantly less complicated than those of the Postgres cloud database. In his session at 16th Cloud...

Today’s enterprise is being driven by disruptive competitive and human capital requirements to provide enterprise application access through not only desktops, but also mobile devices. To retrofit existing programs across all these devices using traditional programming methods is very costly and time consuming – often prohibitively so. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Jesse Shiah, CEO, President, and Co-Founder of AgilePoint Inc., discussed how you can create applications that run on all mobile ...

While great strides have been made relative to the video aspects of remote collaboration, audio technology has basically stagnated. Typically all audio is mixed to a single monaural stream and emanates from a single point, such as a speakerphone or a speaker associated with a video monitor. This leads to confusion and lack of understanding among participants especially regarding who is actually speaking. Spatial teleconferencing introduces the concept of acoustic spatial separation between confe...

There is no question that the cloud is where businesses want to host data. Until recently hypervisor virtualization was the most widely used method in cloud computing. Recently virtual containers have been gaining in popularity, and for good reason. In the debate between virtual machines and containers, the latter have been seen as the new kid on the block – and like other emerging technology have had some initial shortcomings. However, the container space has evolved drastically since coming on...

Even though it’s now Microservices Journal, long-time fans of SOA World Magazine can take comfort in the fact that the URL – soa.sys-con.com – remains unchanged. And that’s no mistake, as microservices are really nothing more than a new and improved take on the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) best practices we struggled to hammer out over the last decade. Skeptics, however, might say that this change is nothing more than an exercise in buzzword-hopping. SOA is passé, and now that people are ...
