SEATTLE, WA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/17/14 -- Glympse, the pioneer in real-time location sharing technology, today announced Glympse for Kindle Fire, as well as a new feature-rich version of the app, developed specifically for Windows Phone 8 (WP8). The new Glympse for WP8 incorporates features not previously available on the Windows Phone, like the ability to share with others via international phone numbers and the ability to update a user's location while the app is in the background.
"We have received thousands of emails and tweets from avid Glympse users who want to use all the great features of Glympse on their Windows Phone or their Kindle Fire tablet," said Darren Austin, vice president of product, Glympse. "Today's announcement is a result of popular demand, and we are excited to enhance the experience for our loyal fans."
The new Kindle Fire app signals Glympse's entry into the Amazon device ecosystem. It offers users a dynamic, temporary way share their location with others. User simply select the recipient -- either phone number, email or social network -- input how long they want their location to be available, and hit send. Recipients can view the sender's movements in real-time on a mobile or web browser.
The upgraded WP8 app, which will be live in the Windows Store later this week, takes advantage of the latest OS capabilities to offer several new features beyond the tools available in the original app, including:
- International phone number support. Glympse now leverages the default messaging app on the device to allow users to share their location with any phone number supported by their carrier.
- Background operation. Glympse will now be able to run in the background. This enables users to share their location continually, for the amount of time set, while using other applications and without having to update settings to allow permission for Glympse to run while the screen is off.
- Easier view-in-app capability. Viewers can now easily launch and view a Glympse in the app from a link received in a text message or email. Previously, recipients were forced to watch a sender's location solely from the web browser.
The company plans to quickly introduce updates that will further enhance both the Windows Phone and Kindle Fire experiences with the rich feature set users have come to expect from all Glympse apps.
Glympse is the pioneer of person-to-person time-based location sharing technology. With an intuitive design and enhanced features, the company easily integrates location sharing into everyday activities, meetings and events. Glympse has partnered with many top-tier companies, including Blackberry, BMW/MINI, Ford, Garmin, GM, Gogo Inflight, Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes, NAVIGON, Samsung and Verizon, which have integrated the Glympse brand and enterprise platform into their own products and applications. The company is backed by Verizon Ventures, UMC Capital, Menlo Ventures, Naya Ventures and Ignition Partners.

With the arrival of the Big Data revolution, a data professional is expected to master a broad spectrum of complex domains including data processing, mathematics, programming languages, machine learning techniques, and business knowledge. While this mastery is undoubtedly important, this narrow focus on tool usage has divorced many from the imagination required to solve real-world problems. As the demand for analysis increases, the data science community must transform from tool experts to "data...

The truth is, today’s databases are anything but agile – they are effectively static repositories that are cumbersome to work with, difficult to change, and cannot keep pace with application demands. Performance suffers as a result, and it takes far longer than it should to deliver new features and capabilities needed to make your organization competitive. As your application and business needs change, data repositories and structures get outmoded rapidly, resulting in increased work for applica...

Docker offers a new, lightweight approach to application portability. Applications are shipped using a common container format and managed with a high-level API. Their processes run within isolated namespaces that abstract the operating environment independently of the distribution, versions, network setup, and other details of this environment. This "containerization" has often been nicknamed "the new virtualization." But containers are more than lightweight virtual machines. Beyond their small...

In the consumer IoT, everything is new, and the IT world of bits and bytes holds sway. But industrial and commercial realms encompass operational technology (OT) that has been around for 25 or 50 years. This grittier, pre-IP, more hands-on world has much to gain from Industrial IoT (IIoT) applications and principles. But adding sensors and wireless connectivity won’t work in environments that demand unwavering reliability and performance. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Ron Sege, CEO of Echelon...
