LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwired) -- 06/18/14 -- Xirrus®, the leader in high-performance wireless networks, today announced a partnership with UCOPIA Communications, the leading European provider of access security and mobility management solutions, to deliver easy-to-manage and secure mobile access over high performance wireless networks. The integrated wireless solution enables organisations of all sizes to implement, secure and manage BYOD programmes, guest access and other mobility initiatives in all types of usage environments.
The joint offering from Xirrus and UCOPIA is highly scalable, having been tested and proven in deployments up to 20,000 concurrent users. This makes it ideal for small businesses up to large enterprise deployments, providing the ability to deliver capacity and secure connectivity to mobile employees, partners and guests.
With in-built modularity and upgradability, the solution is future-proofed and can readily adapt to changing business needs. Other differentiators include rapid provisioning; unprecedented visibility of users, devices, applications and traffic; lower operational costs; and Wi-Fi offloading integrated with billing and monetisation.
The solution secures and optimises the mobile user experience over Wi-Fi by combining the only full-function deep packet inspection engine, Xirrus Application Control, with profile-based application management. Application Control can recognise and act on over 1,300 applications to ensure predictable application performance over wireless by prioritizing critical applications and limiting or blocking others. The solution can be managed either on-premises or in the cloud, providing additional flexibility and control.
Didier Plateau, CEO, UCOPIA, said: "Our partnership aims to address the mobility and mobile security challenges of a wide range of organisations, including enterprises, schools, stadiums and arenas, convention centres, retail environments and service providers -- all of which are facing a deluge of new devices on their networks and growing demands from mobile users.
"By deploying Xirrus Wireless Arrays and APs and UCOPIA Express or Advance appliances, organisations can quickly provision and expand wireless coverage and offer secure, tiered mobile access to all types of users. At the same time, IT teams will have visibility and control over their entire network, enabling them to, for example, enforce application policies and ensure application performance, even at peak demand," added Didier.
Alexandra Palace, an iconic entertainment and leisure destination in North London, deployed the integrated solution to provide clients and its one million annual visitors with a fast and engaging Wi-Fi experience across 10,873 square metres of events space.
Emma Dagnes, Commercial Director at Alexandra Palace said: "To remain competitive in today's market, it is imperative for venues such as us to provide clients with a fast, reliable and secure wireless service. Among other benefits, this gives them the confidence and ability to engage in new communication channels, promote their services and take advantage of additional advertising and revenue generating opportunities such as branded Wi-Fi portals linking directly to their websites.
"The Xirrus and UCOPIA solution is unique as it gives us incredible performance and scalability -- the ability to support up to 11,000 concurrent users -- plus real granularity and control over the network, access and applications -- all with exceptionally high security."
Shane Buckley, CEO at Xirrus, said: "With 1.9 billion new mobile phones forecast to be shipped globally this year -- not to mention other Wi-Fi enabled devices -- the security of wireless networks has never been more important. Employees, partners and guests need seamless access at all times, making successful management of network performance and security a business imperative. By integrating our portfolio with UCOPIA's security and mobility management solutions, we give customers the ability to do just that."
