AZ HIMSS Makes Patient Engagement a Top Priority and Appoints Ian Worden Committee Chair

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - June 18, 2014) - Steve Bouck, 2014-2015 president-elect of the Arizona chapter of HIMSS (Health Information Management Systems Society), recently announced that patient engagement expert and chief information officer at LifeNexus, Ian Worden, will chair the chapter's patient engagement committee. In creating this new committee and naming Mr. Worden chair, Mr. Bouck's goal is to bring the needs of the patient to the forefront of IT development within the healthcare industry.

"Patient engagement is the underpinning of everything we do. As the industry evolves from fee for service to a value-based care model, patient engagement will become even more important to the organizations we represent," said Mr. Bouck. "Ian is very passionate about and experienced in the area of patient engagement. We are very excited to have him in this leadership role, and look forward to all that we can accomplish together."

Mr. Worden is an experienced thought leader and innovator in the design and development of healthcare products and services across the continuum of care, and highly accomplished in population-based consumer engagement strategies. Inspired by his wife of 26 years and the challenges she faced navigating the healthcare system as a cancer patient, Mr. Worden has made it his life's mission to understand how patients can stay actively engaged in their health while operating in healthcare's fragmented delivery system. Today, he authors the blog Better Patient Engagement (www.betterpatientengagement.com) and serves as the chief information officer and product architect at LifeNexus, the creator of iChip® -- a patented technology designed to engage patients and improve healthcare experiences and outcomes by enabling the patient to access and share their health information with their provider at point of care.

Over the years, HIMSS has evolved from an organization primarily serving technology experts to one supporting some of health IT's most influential designers and decision-makers leveraging technology to solve healthcare problems. As such, Mr. Bouck and Mr. Worden hope to raise awareness of the patient and tenets of patient engagement to increase the likelihood that healthcare technology solutions incorporate this important perspective into their designs.

"I'm excited about this opportunity to join the AZ HIMSS board of directors," said Mr. Worden. "This appointment provides an opportunity to encourage health IT leaders to better meet the needs of patients. By sharing with them the motivations and barriers that patients experience in relation to their health, these experts and decision-makers can keep the elements of patient engagement in mind as they design and develop the infrastructure of their new technology systems."
