Mtel Completes Successful Trial of Affirmed Networks’ NFV Solution for its Evolved Packet Core

Mtel, the largest mobile operator in Bulgaria, announces the successful trial of a fully virtualized Evolved Packet Core (vEPC) using Affirmed Networks’ virtualization solution, called the Affirmed Mobile Content Cloud™.

Mtel, a subsidiary of Telekom Austria Group, is a leading company in the telecommunications market in Bulgaria. The telecom provides its services to over 4.2 million customers. The company has an important role as a driver of the economy and society in Bulgaria. In 2013, Mtel experienced 30% growth in mobile broadband connections. The company also reports growth in the fixed broadband segment.

”We are absolutely confident that the NFV technology is a defining trend in the mobile industry. We are therefore very pleased with Mtel’s initiative to explore and implement NFV. The success and efficiency goes along with years of innovation strategy at Mtel. For Telekom Austria Group, this is just the beginning of a journey to explore the latest technologies and further improve services for our customers, performance, experience, or availability,” said Gunther Ottendorfer, Chief Technical Officer of Telekom Austria Group.

Affirmed Networks is the recognized leader in the virtualization of mobile networks. The Affirmed Mobile Content Cloud is the only commercially-deployable Network Function Virtualization (NFV) technology available in the mobile telecommunications industry with multiple deployments and trials worldwide, including Tier 1 operators.

By employing a next-generation NFV and cloud-based approach, Affirmed Networks is able to provide Mtel with a fully virtualized Evolved Packet Core (vEPC), including 4G gateways, policy control and enforcement functions, Gi services, dynamic scaling, MPLS-based VPN, and other capabilities.

“By radically enhancing both the operator’s commercial model for deployment of new services and their time to revenue, Affirmed Networks enables our customers to implement new capabilities that are not viable in the legacy network,” said Hassan Ahmed, Chairman and CEO of Affirmed Networks. “Our virtualized solutions enable operators to aggressively address a broad new set of applications and opportunities for their enterprise and end user customers.”

Affirmed Networks was awarded the 2013 Frost & Sullivan New Product Innovation Award, garnered notable recognition in CIO magazine, was selected as a finalist in Light Reading’s 2014 Leading Lights awards, was named as part of FierceWireless’s Fierce 15 list for 2014, and has been named a finalist in the Smaller Business Association of New England Innovation Awards in 2013 and 2014.
