The Great Courses, the nation’s leading developer and marketer of premium-quality media for lifelong learning and personal enrichment, will release its 500th course on Friday. The company now offers nearly 7,000 hours and more than 13,000 lectures delivered in engaging, expertly produced video and audio (digital streaming, downloads, DVDs and CDs).
The milestone 500th course is Understanding Modern Electronics, taught by award-winning Professor of Physics Richard Wolfson of Middlebury College. It will provide a working explanation of the principles that govern electronic circuits, then show these principles in action with everyday devices that have revolutionized our lives.
“This course illustrates the depth and diversity of what The Great Courses has to offer,” said Ed Leon, chief brand officer at The Great Courses, which has been touted by Bill Gates on "60 Minutes" and David Gregory from “Meet the Press.” “We work with the world’s greatest professors from top universities to deliver thrilling learning experiences that keep our customers coming back time and time again.”
The Great Courses is launching 48 new courses across its 10 main subject areas in 2014, totaling 584 hours and 1,161 lectures. Earlier this year, the company sold its 15 millionth course since being founded in 1990. Each course is taught by a leading professor in his or her field, covering subject areas as diverse as the arts, science, literature, self-improvement, history, music, philosophy, theology, economics, mathematics, business, professional advancement and personal growth.
Recently announced partnerships with both The Smithsonian Institution and National Geographic will provide courses that delve deep into the resources of those organizations, including a Smithsonian course on the history of America as told through the amazing one-of-a-kind objects in its museum collections.
