GTxcel (www.GTxcel.com), a leader in digital publishing solutions, introduces ClassApp, a new mobile app solution for schools and universities. With ClassApp teachers can publish content to mobile devices for students, faculty, and peers.
ClassApp is a branded content app that gives students immediate access to assignments, class presentations, syllabi, and learning materials from smartphones and tablets. Teachers can work with GTxcel to create a ClassApp for their class and to submit content that is to appear in the app. The app also incorporates timely RSS feeds for news or blogs, as well as video, podcasts, slideshows, quick polls, and Google Maps. The app is available for download from Apple iTunes, Google Play, and the Amazon Appstore.
Mobile devices play a big role in students’ academic lives. Over half of students own three or more internet-connected devices.1 Additionally, Pearson found that nine out of ten students believe that mobile devices will change the way students learn in the future and make learning more fun.2
Says Peter Stilson, CEO of GTxcel, “We’re excited to bring mobile technology into the classroom. Teachers and instructors can create a mobile app that houses learning materials and publications for their students and members. Content “responds” to the user’s device for a superior reading experience on all screens. With ClassApp students can bookmark or share pages through email and social networks.”
This fall Western New England University in Springfield, Massachusetts will launch ClassApp for a Probability & Statistics class. “Every week I will add assignments, presentations, and case studies to the app. All class material will be optimized for reading on smartphones,” says Marilyn Pelosi, Assistant Dean of the School of Business.
“GTxcel works with many prominent universities to digitize their publications, which can be viewed at GTxcel.com/Samples/. ClassApp is being marketed to teachers as a new way to connect with students and to make academic content mobile for learning inside and outside of the classroom,” says Peter Stilson.

DevOps is about increasing efficiency, but nothing is more inefficient than building the same application twice. However, this is a routine occurrence with enterprise applications that need both a rich desktop web interface and strong mobile support. With recent technological advances from Isomorphic Software and others, it is now feasible to create a rich desktop and tuned mobile experience with a single codebase, without compromising performance or usability.

Application metrics, logs, and business KPIs are a goldmine. It’s easy to get started with the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana) – you can see lots of people coming up with impressive dashboards, in less than a day, with no previous experience. Going from proof-of-concept to production tends to be a bit more difficult, unfortunately, and it tends to gobble up our attention, time, and money. In his session at DevOps Summit, Otis Gospodnetić, co-author of Lucene in Action and founder...

Even as cloud and managed services grow increasingly central to business strategy and performance, challenges remain. The biggest sticking point for companies seeking to capitalize on the cloud is data security. Keeping data safe is an issue in any computing environment, and it has been a focus since the earliest days of the cloud revolution. Understandably so: a lot can go wrong when you allow valuable information to live outside the firewall. Recent revelations about government snooping, along...
