World's Largest DJ Competition Returns to Canada

Vancouver to Host Red Bull Thre3Style National Finals With World Finals Set for Azerbaija

VANCOUVER, BC -- June 26, 2014 -- The world's largest DJ competition will return to Canada this summer, with Vancouver playing host to the Red Bull Thre3Style National Final on July 26, 2014. Red Bull Thre3Style was born in British Columbia almost a decade ago, making Vancouver's nationwide competition a true homecoming story.

Following a thorough examination of all DJ submissions received, the 16 Canadian Red Bull Thre3Style finalists have been selected and are feverishly preparing to compete this summer.

NEW SEASON BRINGS A NEW FORMAT

With an all-new qualifying format this season, 2014's battle for sonic supremacy will be more challenging than ever. Competitors have been filed into only two Regional Qualifiers (compared to eight last season) this July; one in Calgary, with DJs representing Western Canada, and one in Toronto, with DJs representing Eastern Canada. Each competitor's 15-minute original mix will decide their fate and ultimately, only one Canadian DJ will earn the coveted chance to represent Canada at the 2014 Red Bull Thre3Style World Finals in Baku, Azerbaijan this September.

STAR JUDGES AND LIVE PERFORMANCES

This year's judging panel will once again feature a roster of local and international DJ heavyweights, including Skratch Bastid, Grandtheft, Thugli, Hedspin, Smalltown DJs, Four Color Zack and international musical tastemaker and crowd-favourite, the incredible DJ Jazzy Jeff.

Thre3Style crowds in Canada will also be treated to live performances by many of the judges this July. Grandtheft and Thugli will hit the stage at the East Qualifier, Hedspin, Four Color Zack and Smalltown DJs will perform at the West Qualifier and DJ Jazzy Jeff, Smalltown DJs, Four Color Zack and Hedspin will all headline at the National Final.

CANADIAN EVENT SCHEDULE

East Qualifier | July 11, 2014 | Toronto, ON | The Hoxton

Three of the eight competing DJs from the East will advance to the National Final. These DJs were selected from Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador. Live performances: Grandtheft and Thugli.

West Qualifier | July 20, 2014 | Calgary, AB | Commonwealth

Three of the eight competing DJs from the West will advance to the National Final. These DJs were selected from the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba.

Live performances: Smalltown DJs, Hedspin and Four Color Zack.

National Final | July 26, 2014 | Vancouver, BC | Commodore Ballroom

The top six competitors from the East and West Qualifier will compete in Vancouver's National Final against each other and defending Red Bull Thre3Style 2013 National Champion Adam Doubleyou. The champion will move on to represent Canada at this year's Red Bull Thre3Style World Finals in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Live performances: DJ Jazzy Jeff, Smalltown DJs, Hedspin and Four Color Zack.

2014 COMPETITORS INBOUND FROM ACROSS CANADA

This season, over a hundred Canadian DJs from coast to coast submitted applications in hopes of earning a spot in this year's competition. Applicants included returning Thre3Style hopefuls from years past, along with newcomer Thre3Style rookies entering the competition for the first time. Each keen to seize the coveted DJ throne in 2014, this year's selection process was trickier than ever and the roster of competitors is a true testament to the quality of musical talent in Canada.

ABOUT RED BULL THRE3STYLE

What started as an underground experiment in 2007 has forever changed the face of modern DJ battles. In 2010, Red Bull Thre3style pit ten countries' top DJs against each other for the first time and since then, in four short years, Red Bull Thre3Style has grown to what is now the largest DJ competition on earth.

Spectator numbers at each local competition expand exponentially over the years, and the volume of submissions received continues to inundate the application process. Toronto's 2013 World Finals Week alone hosted 17 countries of DJs. One year later, Baku will host up to 20 countries of the top DJs from around the world.

“Oh, dev is dev and ops is ops, and never the twain shall meet.” With apoloies to Rudyard Kipling and all of his fans, this describes the early state of the two sides of DevOps. Thanks to Docker, it becomes very easy to leverage containers to build, ship, and run any Linux application on any kind of infrastructure. The truth is, today’s databases are anything but agile – they are effectively static repositories that are cumbersome to work with, difficult to change, and cannot keep pace with application demands. As your application and business needs change, data repositories and structures get outmoded rapidly, resulting in increased work for applica...
