Accelerate Learning Launches STEMcoach.com, A Free STEM Professional Development Site for K-12 Teachers

With a shortage of an experienced workforce in STEM fields, now more than ever teachers are trying to find ways to foster student engagement and achievement in STEM subjects. To provide preK-12 districts with easy access to STEM resources for experienced and novice science teachers alike, Accelerate Learning today announces the launch of a free professional development site, STEMcoach.comTM. Click to Tweet.

Designed for preK-12 science teachers, coordinators and supervisors, the new STEMcoach.com web portal provides easy access to an array of resources to support teachers teaching math, science, technology, and engineering classes.

“Research shows that the most direct route to increased student achievement is high-quality teaching. STEMcoach.com provides teachers of all experience levels with easy access to content-rich resources to enhance their instruction and bring STEM to life for their students,” said Vernon Johnson, president and CEO of Accelerate Learning.

Within the Resources section of STEMcoach.com, teachers can find hands-on investigations they can immediately implement in their classrooms. These ready-made lessons include a teacher guide, question prompts, student guide and student journal. Teachers can also access instructional practice tips, and videos featuring STEM professionals talking about the skills students need to pursue STEM careers.

The Interact section of STEMcoach.com offers access to an array of interactive professional development opportunities. Teachers can join STEMshare, an online STEM community, to share enhanced STEM lessons and learn from each other. They can participate in STEMtalk, which features live monthly chats about hot STEM topics. They can gain insights into STEM teaching by nominating STEM Star Teachers and hearing their stories. They can also enter their own STEM ideas into the STEMchallenge contest, which addresses a new theme each quarter.

In addition, teachers can visit the STEMpioneers page, which features videos showing innovation, leadership, practice, scholarship, and service in STEM. STEMcoach is led by two leading STEM educators, Dr. Reid Whitaker, Ph.D., the founder of STEMscopes, and Dr. Terry Talley, Ed.D., an expert in helping schools understand 21st century learning skills needed to be successful in STEM-related fields.

The launch of STEMcoach.com follows on the heels of the national release of STEMscopes, a comprehensive, online preK-12 science curriculum that helps teachers adopt effective STEM instructional practices, and improve student engagement and performance. Developed in conjunction with Rice University, the inquiry-based curriculum provides digital teacher and student materials and assessments, as well as printed materials and science kits for each grade level. Just last month STEMscopes was recognized as the Best Whole Curriculum Program for Science in the Association of American Publishers’ prestigious REVERE Awards.

About Accelerate Learning, Inc.: Accelerate Learning, in conjunction with Rice University, is focused on becoming the most effective digital PreK-12 STEM resource used by teachers, students, and parents. With over 1.5 million student users and growing, Accelerate Learning has grown from a single product, STEMscopes in 2007, to a brand that now offers a variety of curriculum and professional development solutions which support early learning, NGSS, and state-aligned curriculum. Accelerate Learning has earned recognition in District Administration’s Top 100 Products, SIIA Innovation Incubator, and EdTech Digest’s Cool Tool Awards.
