CPA Introduces Virtual Pay Machine for Customers on the Go

CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/02/14 -- Skip the pay machine and scan a QR code to pay for your parking on the go. The Calgary Parking Authority's "Virtual Pay Machine" officially launches today to provide added convenience for residents and visitors who use smartphones.

Specialized quick reference (QR) codes will be found on ParkPlus pay machines and CPA signage; then, all customers have to do is scan the code, provide their zone number and licence plate, select the amount of time they want to park for then enter their credit card information. A receipt will be provided by email, if requested.

"We want to provide convenient, innovative and easy parking solutions for our customers and the Virtual Pay Machine fits this vision," explains General Manager Troy McLeod. "We expect this feature to be very popular with visitors to our city as well as residents who only park occasionally and don't have a ParkPlus account."

There is no fee to use the Virtual Pay Machine; however, customers must have a credit card and a smartphone to use the service. The feature itself is both safe and secure; information entered by the user is not retained and is only valid for one parking transaction.

As usual, customers may also pay for parking by coin or credit card at ParkPlus pay machines or through their cell phone account by calling in, text-to-park or with the MyParking app.

About Us

The Calgary Parking Authority is a proud partner of The City of Calgary and is committed to managing publicly-owned on- and off-street parking facilities on The City's behalf. In addition, we manage the municipal parking enforcement program and provide parking advisory services.

Every dollar we collect that exceeds our operational costs is returned to The City of Calgary. Last year we returned more than $2M each month to the municipal general revenue program which funds projects such as recreation centres and pathways and provides funding for community services and public safety programs. The CPA operates without using any municipal tax revenues.
