Calgary Parking Authority General Manager Joins City of Calgary as Director of Roads

CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/09/14 -- The Calgary Parking Authority (CPA) Board of Directors announced today that General Manager Troy McLeod will be joining the City of Calgary as Director of Roads effective August 1, 2014.

"Mr. McLeod has made a tremendous contribution to our organization over the past several years," said Board Chairman Tariq Malik. "He has helped create a strong organization that is focused on the future and customer service and this will serve us extremely well in the years to come."

Since joining the CPA, Mr. McLeod has spearheaded a number of groundbreaking initiatives and continued to build on its reputation as a leader in parking payment technology by introducing the MyParking app with parking availability information, Text to Park and Virtual Pay Machine, the CPA's newest smart parking initiative.

Under Mr. McLeod's direction the CPA released a strategic plan that maps out the organization's course over the next ten years. In addition, under his leadership the CPA provided exceptional support to Calgarians during and after the flood and re-opened City Hall Parkade a mere five months after the entire facility was filled with flood waters.

"I have really enjoyed working with the staff at the Calgary Parking Authority," said General Manager Troy McLeod. "They are a committed group of individuals who care deeply about their work and I'll miss them. I am looking forward to continuing to serve the public in my new role as Director of Roads with the City of Calgary."

Prior to joining the CPA in May 2011, Mr. McLeod had worked extensively in the City's Transportation department since 1995. He began his career there as Data Collector then moved on to progressively more demanding roles and was appointed the Manager of Traffic in 2008.

"Needless to say, Troy will be a natural fit over at Roads," says City of Calgary Transportation General Manager Mac Logan. "He has great technical knowledge, effective communication skills and a passion for transportation that helps foster new ideas."

The CPA Board of Directors thank Mr. McLeod for his leadership and wish him success in his new role. A formal search to select a new General Manager will commence immediately.

In her session at @ThingsExpo, Esmeralda Swartz, CMO of MetraTech, discussed how for this to be effective you not only need to have infrastructure and operational models capable of utilizing this new phenomenon, but increasingly service providers will need to convince a skeptical public to participate. How do APIs and IoT relate? The answer is not as simple as merely adding an API on top of a dumb device, but rather about understanding the architectural patterns for implementing an IoT fabric. There are typically two or three trends: Exposing the device to a management framework Exposing that management framework to a business centric logic Exposing that business layer and data to end users. This last trend is the IoT stack, which involves a new shift in the separation of what stuff happe...

The Internet of Things is tied together with a thin strand that is known as time. Coincidentally, at the core of nearly all data analytics is a timestamp.
