Today Redfin (www.redfin.com), the customer-first real estate brokerage, released a list of the 10 best neighborhoods across the U.S. to cook and dine at home. Redfin compiled its list by finding neighborhoods with high numbers of for-sale homes with cooking-friendly features that were also located near farmers markets and grocery stores. Home-cooking mecca Allrecipes crunched the numbers to find the most popular dishes that use both local and fresh ingredients for each neighborhood.
The number of farmers markets in the U.S. has more than quadrupled since 1994, giving America’s home cooks increasing access to quality ingredients and recipes, but Redfin wanted to find the 10 best neighborhoods where this is the case. Redfin data scientists searched through homes for sale on Redfin.com to find those with descriptions that mentioned features such as gourmet kitchens, vegetable gardens and chicken coops. Redfin also only factored in homes within two miles of farmers markets and good grocery shopping options. The neighborhood list is as follows:
- Downtown, San Jose, CA
- Stanton Park, Washington, DC
- North Capitol Hill, Denver, CO
- Lakeridge, Seattle, WA
- Mid-City, Los Angeles, CA
- Canton, Baltimore, MD
- East Atlanta, Atlanta, GA
- North Center, Chicago, IL
- South Beach, San Francisco, CA
- Graduate Hospital, Philadelphia, PA
