BattelleEd and Partners Win Ohio Straight A Funds

COLUMBUS, OH -- (Marketwired) -- 07/10/14 -- Battelle's non-profit subsidiary, BattelleEd, has won more than $2 million from Ohio's Straight A Fund to manage education networks and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning.

Successful ongoing management and support of the Ohio STEM Learning Network played a key role in earning the 501c3 this work. BattlelleEd also manages a range of other STEM programs including the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network and the national STEMx network.

Now, as a partner on three winning proposals to Ohio's Straight A Fund, BattelleEd will expand its operations. The winning proposals, led by a range of top Ohio education organizations, total more than $28 million in support for Ohio schools.

"We believe STEM education is the best way for children to develop the knowledge and skills they need to succeed," said Aimee Kennedy, Vice-President of Education, STEM Learning and Philanthropy at Battelle. "Thanks to Ohio's Straight A Fund, schools and teachers across Ohio will gain new access to this groundbreaking movement in education."

The money will be distributed in several ways:

  • Under a $14 million proposal led by the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio named College Ready Ohio, BattelleEd joins with the Ohio State University, Geauga County Educational Service Center, and a consortium of schools to deliver innovative online dual enrollment courses and resources to students and training for teachers. Other partners on the project include: Hilliard City Schools, Global Impact STEM Academy, Metro Early College High School, Bio-Med Science Academy, Cardinal Local School District, Berkshire Local Schools, Kenston Local Schools, Dublin City Schools, Columbus City Schools, and Perkins Local Schools.
  • Under an $8 million proposal led by the Fairfield County Educational Service Center, BattelleEd will support the development of a new local center for STEM education that will serve 300 at-risk youth. Other partners on the project include: Lancaster City Schools, Hilliard City Schools, Worthington City Schools, Pickerington Local School District, Walnut Township Local Schools, Columbus City Schools, Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools, Hamilton Local and Liberty Union Thurston Local Schools
  • Under a $5 million proposal led by the Geauga County Educational Service Center, BattelleEd will support the development of a new STEM school at the career center and satellite programs in four schools. Other partners on the project include: Ledgemont Local Schools, Berkshire Local Schools, Cardinal Local School District, Kenston Local Schools, Auburn Career Center, and Kent State University at Geauga
