SOUTH LYON, MI -- (Marketwired) -- 07/18/14 -- The Michigan Lean Consortium (MLC) announces that its 4th Annual conference will be held August 7-8 at the Hagerty Conference Center at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City, Mich. The theme of this year's conference is "People: The Heart of Lean." It will feature workshops and lots of networking opportunities.
The annual conference takes place from 9:00 am - 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 7 and from 8:30 am - 2:00 pm on Friday, August 8. Registration fees are $325 for members; $415 for non-members, which includes a one-year MLC membership; and $100 for full-time students.
An optional pre-conference Kata training will be held on Wednesday, August 6, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm by Jay VanderZwaag, a partner with W3 Group. The cost is $59 for members and $89 for non-members.
Thursday morning's keynote speaker will be Mike Rother, author of Toyota Kata. Darrell Rogers, director of industry training at Northwestern Michigan College's Training and Research Department, will deliver the keynote speech at dinner Thursday. Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley will be the keynote speaker at Friday's luncheon.
Attendees can choose one of the following breakout sessions on Thursday from 1 pm - 3 pm:
1. Building CI Capability -- One Company at a Time
2. Make Improvements Soar with Value Streams
3. A3 Coaching Strategies
4. The Building Blocks of Standard Work Instruction
5. The Art Behind the Science and Using Leader Standard Work to Promote Colleague Engagement
Attendees can choose one of the following breakout sessions on Friday from 9:45 am - 11:45 am:
1. Using Lean Techniques to Foster Innovation
2. The Power of Value Stream Mapping in Complex, Non-Manufacturing Processes
3. The Red Bead Experiment
4. Business Process Improvement Startup at Kansas City Southern Railroad
5. Focus Groups: Understanding Culture Through Storyboards
In addition, a pre-conference wine tasting event will be held on Wednesday, August 6 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Brys Estate Vineyard & Winery on Old Mission Peninsula. The cost is $25.
