SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/21/14 -- SPYRUS today announced a new highly ruggedized water-resistant version of their Portable Workplace, Secure Portable Workplace, WorkSafe and WorkSafe Pro portable SSD live drives Microsoft certified for Windows To Go 8.1 designed for environmentally challenging portable computing environments such as military, law enforcement, construction, or workplaces with extreme weather and temperature conditions. The drive can function in temperatures as low as 0C degrees or as high as 70C degrees, and function if accidentally submerged in water. These drives are ideal for a new generation of rugged laptops and portable computers.
Available in 32, 64, 128, and 256 GB versions, the PKI enabled WorkSafe and WorkSafe Pro drives address a rapidly developing need for trusted mobility solutions that transform almost any laptop or desktop into a trustworthy workspace using RSA or Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC). The live drives provide contractors, remote workers, teachers, students, and telecommuters with a complete operating environment that includes extensive features that can be tailored for a wide variety of use cases, including managed read-only options that have no persistent data storage to mitigate data exfiltration.
"Technical leadership, hardware security, FIPS 140-2 Level 3 PKI capabilities, and ultra-high performance make the new rugged SPYRUS family of live drives the choice for next-generation Windows To Go platforms," said Tom Dickens, SPYRUS COO. "By using the new rugged, portable drives, businesses, government agencies and educational institutions can finally realize significant cost savings by repurposing employee-owned or corporate legacy computers."
Additionally, the entire family of drives can be configured to have Data Vault storage compartments externally accessible from the host platform for use as a secure USB storage device. SPYRUS live drives implement the most advanced XTS-AES 256 mode in all hardware encrypting versions and features the unique ToughBoot defense of the Windows operating system, while multiple security functions secure documents and identity credentials from tampering and theft with layered hardware and software encryption, depending on the particular model.
WorkSafe and WorkSafe Pro live drives provide a made-in-USA, trusted Windows 8.1 endpoint for network access and simultaneously protect enterprise networks with multi-factor authentication using smart card digital certificates. These drives are an industry first in a family of live drives that embed FIPS 140-2 Level 3 hardware smart card chips to provide tamper-proof digital certificates for authentication and encryption. WorkSafe Pro adds AES-256 XTS hardware encryption for the highest assurance applications. Enterprises can leverage their investment in public key and smart card infrastructures, extending their trusted foundation for smart card login, VPN access, secure email, and authenticated online collaboration.
The SPYRUS ToughBoot loader, digitally signed by Microsoft, mitigates against hacking attacks during the boot sequence when using the UEFI Secure Boot available on newer computers. If any tampering or malfunction of hardware or firmware is detected, the boot process will not continue.
The SPYRUS Windows To Go drives maintain compatibility with the optional SPYRUS Enterprise Management System (SEMS). Combining a public key with a smart card-enabled echo system and SPYRUS security applications extends a true end-to-end security approach for enterprise smart card and PKI infrastructure to mobile users. With SEMS device management, enterprise administrators can centrally register, block/unblock, revoke, set policies, audit, and "kill" SPYRUS Windows To Go drives.

The major cloud platforms defy a simple, side-by-side analysis. Each of the major IaaS public-cloud platforms offers their own unique strengths and functionality. Options for on-site private cloud are diverse as well, and must be designed and deployed while taking existing legacy architecture and infrastructure into account. Then the reality is that most enterprises are embarking on a hybrid cloud strategy and programs. In this Power Panel at 15th Cloud Expo (http://www.CloudComputingExpo.com...

The move in recent years to cloud computing services and architectures has added significant pace to the application development and deployment environment. When enterprise IT can spin up large computing instances in just minutes, developers can also design and deploy in small time frames that were unimaginable a few years ago. The consequent move toward lean, agile, and fast development leads to the need for the development and operations sides to work very closely together. Thus, DevOps become...
