O.C. Tanner’s Charlotte L. Miller Honored as Utah’s 2014 Lawyer of the Year

O.C. Tanner, a developer of employee recognition strategies and rewards programs, proudly recognizes that Charlotte (“Charlee”) L. Miller, the company’s Senior Vice President of People & Great Work, due to her notable contributions to the legal profession, has been named Utah’s 2014 “Lawyer of the year,” by the Utah State Bar®.

“Charlotte is a remarkable person and a valuable member of our executive team,” said David Petersen, O.C. Tanner’s CEO. “She naturally blends her legal and people skills as our senior human resource executive and we all depend on and appreciate her judgment and friendship. Congratulations Charlee!”

In tribute to her tremendous personal and professional character, she graciously opened her home to a student from India, for a year, so that he could realize his dream of receiving an education in the United States.

This story epitomizes Charlotte’s skill as a lawyer and her willingness to help individuals in times of need. She has represented significant corporations in Utah at critical times, has brought innovation to the Utah State Bar through new programs, and has always been willing to help those in need. At times, she has used her legal skills to assist others, but more often it is her human care and concern that has made the lasting difference.

The Utah State Bar has honored its most outstanding lawyers since 1970. During the award’s 44-year history, Charlotte, who has also served as President of the Utah State Bar, now becomes the third woman to garner this award.

“Being honored by my peers confirms that appreciation and recognition inspires people to do great work, because this honor inspires me to be better in every way. I love the legal profession. Lawyers take on people’s problems and help solve them, sometimes in the court room, but often in the board room, living room, parking lot, or at the kitchen table,” said Charlotte L. Miller. “A community of lawyers and business people have supported me over the years and I am thankful to them for my opportunities, and I am thankful to the Utah State Bar for this honor, which I never dreamed of receiving. Many lawyers are deserving of recognition and I hope this event makes all of us thank someone who deserves to be appreciated.”

Charlotte was introduced as the 2014 Lawyer of the Year on Friday, July 18th at the Utah State Bar Summer Convention in Snowmass Village, CO.
