MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/22/14 -- TVU Networks, the global technology leader in live mobile IP newsgathering solutions today announced that more than 30 broadcast stations used over 100 TVUPack mobile cellular ENG transmitters to deliver live coverage of the June 2014 South Korean elections as they unfolded.
The June elections in South Korea marked a pivotal time for the direction of the country, and viewers from across the nation followed the results closely. Major South Korean broadcasters including YTN, Yeonhap TV, SBS and its three regional affiliates, MBC and its six regional affiliates, NewsY, Channel A, TV Chosun, ArirangTV, jTBC, and KTV deployed TVUPack solutions to various locations throughout the country from Seoul to Jeju Island in order to deliver the election results to viewers in real time.
"TVUPack has been a powerful tool for SBS as we cover the stories that are most critical to our viewers. On election day, TVUPack gave us the flexibility to cover the story on the move and in multiple locations. We were able to cover a number of different exit polls and to follow the mayoral candidates for the city of Seoul throughout the day. We also did a number of live interviews with citizens and candidates from two different moving vehicles, which enabled us to tell the story in a unique way," said Mr. Heung-Soo Kim, journalist, SBS.
"We were extremely happy with the performance and stability of the TVUPack transmissions, especially at low-latency settings. Our photographers love the fact that not only is the pack extremely lightweight, but they only need to press a single button and they're going live within 30 seconds," continued Kim.
Using the powerful LTE networks available in South Korea, broadcasters were able to deliver professional-quality HD video of the events surrounding the elections from across the country without the need to deploy OB vans.
"Because of the quality of the LTE networks, the picture quality of the transmissions during the election coverage rivaled that of OB vans. As a result of its superior picture quality, stability, ease-of-use, and incredible customer support, TVUPack is the dominant cellular ENG solution in South Korea. An overwhelming majority of broadcasters in South Korea, including both major 24 hour news-only networks, use TVUPack for live video on a daily basis," said Jeong-il Ha, General Director, MeretaST, a TVU authorized reseller in South Korea.
Already in use by hundreds of leading broadcast organizations around the world, the TVUPack family of IP transmission solutions gives broadcasters a powerful and reliable tool to distribute live video content to broadcast, online, and mobile platforms. The TVUPack family of solutions has been used to deliver professional-quality live HD footage of a number of important events around the world including the London Summer Olympic Games, U.S. presidential elections, the 2013 Papal conclave, and the Sochi Winter Olympics, and the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
