Latest Systems and Service Improvements at Trailcon Led by New Hire Paul Merryweather

Trailcon Leasing's new Vice President, Service & Operations, hit the ground running when he joined the company in April, quickly supporting ambitious expansion plans and rolling out an upgraded mobile repair order (MRO) system to improve communication and customer service.

Transportation industry specialist Paul Merryweather was up for the job, after spending six years in operations and business development for courier Atripco Delivery Service and the 25 years prior as Operations Manager for All-Ontario Transport Ltd.

Trailcon President Alan Boughton said Merryweather's experience in the field is "outstanding," particularly in fleet management and maintenance.

"Paul arrived at just the right time," Boughton said. "We are full steam ahead with expansion in the western provinces while keeping an eye on all the ways we can continue to improve our systems and therefore our service to customers. Paul is a respected leader and has already become part of the team."

Many members of that team have been part of Trailcon operations for 10, 15, even 20 years.

Trailcon owns a fleet of 6,500 units, servicing companies such as ATS Healthcare, Canada Cartage, and National Fast Freight, as well as some of the largest grocery and retail chains in the country. Its dedicated fleet maintenance operation, including 75 technicians, looks after an additional 8,500 customer-owned units across Canada.

Merryweather holds the CCLP® designation (CITT-Certified Logistics Professional) and is an Ontario Trucking Association Certified Trucking Manager (CTM). He said his desire to get back into a role involving maintenance was a factor in his move to Trailcon.

"I have been following the success story of Trailcon since 1992," he said. "With current expansion across Ontario and to the west, I wanted play a role that would ensure that our operations support growth now and into the future."

In February, Boughton announced Trailcon's purchase of Calgary-based Hubs Trailer Service, expanding the Trailcon network of fleet support services and adding a 15,000-square-foot facility housing eight service bays.

"Our ongoing focus is to acquire more companies, as well as build more Trailcon locations," Boughton said. "We will reach new markets and build market share where we already do business. A balanced approach, not just growth by acquisition, will allow us to reach business goals and improve service coast to coast."

Trailcon has operations in Mississauga and Cornwall in Ontario, and Edmonton and Calgary in Alberta. An impressive new location for the Mississauga head office is currently under construction.
