OC Plastic Surgeon Reveals Non-Surgical Method for Correcting Breast Implant Asymmetry

Dr. Daniel Mills Describes the Benefits of His Shoelace "Breast Cast" Technique in a Recent Article Published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal

LAGUNA BEACH, CA--(Marketwired - July 23, 2014) - Recently, the Aesthetic Surgery Journal (ASJ) published an article authored by Orange County plastic surgeon Daniel Mills, MD. Titled, Shoelace Breast Cast, the piece details an innovative post-operative technique designed by Dr. Mills to non-surgically correct particular breast asymmetries that may appear after breast augmentation surgery with implants.

According to the article, "Behind capsular contracture, implant maldisplacement remains the second most common reported complication following an augmentation mammaplasty." Dr. Mills goes on to note that several surgical options are available to correct breast asymmetry, though all surgical breast revision techniques require a second operation and extra financial costs, and they can also run the risk of producing additional complications. To help eliminate these factors that accompany revision surgery, Dr. Mills employs his shoelace "breast cast" technique.

In a recent blog post on his website highlighting the revolutionary technique, the Orange County plastic surgeon writes, "Placing shoelaces underneath the inframammary fold of the breast early in the postoperative period can often reduce the appearance of a 'double bubble,' correct breast asymmetry, and decrease projection of the lower pole of the breast." Additionally, he notes that the shoelace technique also provides support for the weight of the breasts while the new inframammary fold sets in place at an ideal position.

Based on his 19 years of experience utilizing the shoelace "breast cast," Dr. Mills says the best shoelaces are two flat, wide-bodied laces which are then tied together and wrapped around the neck, breasts, and back in an intricately-specific design. When worn properly for a specified period of time, he says the shoelace "breast cast" can often correct breast asymmetries caused by implant malposition without the need for revision breast surgery.
