The Storage Network Industry Association's Solid State Storage Initiative (SSSI), dedicated to fostering the acceptance and growth of Solid State Storage (SSS), will showcase new technical and educational programs at the Flash Memory Summit (FMS) August 4-7, 2014 at the Santa Clara Convention Center.
SNIA Education Day and SSSI Reception
Kicking off activities will be a pre-conference SNIA Education Day on Monday, August 4, in SCCC Room 203/204, where attendees can learn about secure storage, SSD workload testing, benefits of Flash storage to the enterprise, PCI Express, and Flash storage architectures from SNIA member experts.
On Monday evening, a Solid State Storage Reception in the same room will feature technology experts speaking on the SSD market, NVDIMM, the NVM Programming Model, as well as a drawing to give away SSDs.
NVDIMM Special Interest Group
During the conference, the SSSI will feature activities of its NVDIMM SIG, which provides education, promotes existing industry standards and areas for vendor differentiation, and communicates the benefits of NVDIMM. Membership in the NVDIMM SIG has grown to include AgigA Tech, Calypso Systems, Diablo Technologies, Fujitsu, HGST, IDT, Inphi, Intel, Micron, Netlist, Paper Battery, Samsung, SanDisk, SK Hynix, SMART Modular Technologies, and Viking Technology.
NVDIMM solutions will be featured in active and static displays in SSSI booth 808 on the FMS exhibit floor. A "Non-Volatile DIMMs: When Flash Isn't Fast Enough" Hands-On Lab, presented by the SNIA NVDIMM SIG with members AgigA Tech, Netlist, and SMART Modular, will illustrate how one category of NVDIMMs function in server and storage systems and how they can be integrated into a standard server platform.
FMS Software Forum
SSSI members will lead a Software Forum featuring the SNIA NVM Programming Model which defines new software programming models for NVM, describing extensions allowing software to utilize NVM features.
"SNIA's Solid State Storage Initiative has done an amazing job of helping the industry understand and embrace the near-overnight adoption of SSD technology while establishing important performance test standards and NVM programming guidelines," said Jim Handy, Director at Objective Analysis. "SSSI has helped to guide the sudden global acceptance of solid state storage by rapidly assembling and disseminating knowledge that helps users to evaluate, select, and harness the technology to bring about phenomenal improvements in the price/performance of computing."
How to Get Involved
Companies interested in participating in the ongoing work of the SSSI are encouraged to join SNIA, SSSI, the NVDIMM SIG, and the SSS Technical Work Group. Status on updates to specifications, related white papers, and industry articles can be found at www.snia.org/forums/sssi.
