JACKSONVILLE, FL--(Marketwired - July 24, 2014) - International Pageants has found a new home, as Visit Jacksonville brings International Pageant's Mrs. International, Miss International, and Miss Teen International pageants to Jacksonville for the next three years. This year's edition of the International Pageants will be held July 24 through August 2 at the Moran Theatre at the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts.
"This is great news for Jacksonville. Not only will we get to show off our impressive destination to hundreds of competitors from around the globe, but the economic impact of this event relocating to our city for the next three years will be felt throughout our entire community," said Paul Astleford, President and CEO of Visit Jacksonville.
This year, 153 contestants representing destinations from all over the world are participating in the pageants, many of them are visiting our city for the first time. Visit Jacksonville estimates the International Pageants will bring $585,806 in direct economic impact in 2014, with 1,265 room nights booked in Downtown Jacksonville throughout the two-week period.
Visit Jacksonville's Sales and Services team worked diligently with International Pageants, formerly held in Skokie, IL, to bring them to Jacksonville. This three year agreement comes at a perfect time.
"It was important to see this event take place in Jacksonville because not only does the event last for two weeks boosting our occupancy over a typically slower time frame, but with all of the contestants coming from within and outside of the U.S., it also brings national and international recognition to our destination," said Visit Jacksonville National Account Manager Marcia Noon.
Visit Jacksonville's Services team also planned and organized an "Only in Jacksonville" experience for the contestants during their visit. The contestants have an itinerary planned, which includes making blankets for Wolfson Children's Hospital and visiting Jacksonville attractions such as EverBank field and Sweet Pete's.
"International Pageants found Jacksonville to be inviting and welcoming," said Executive Director of International Pageants Mary Richardson. "There is something for everyone! Great beaches, golf, shopping and wonderful restaurants. Our hope is families will come back year after year."
