NEW YORK, NY -- (Marketwired) -- 07/29/14 -- The Museum of Modern Art hosted its PS1 Annual Fundraiser Gala last month to support the museum's Annual Exhibition Fund, which helps realize the extensive program of modern and breathtaking events and exhibitions that are put together for art aficionados every year. PS1 director and Chief Curator at Large at The Museum of Modern Art, Klaus Biesenbach invited guests to join him and Agnes Gund, MoMA President Emerita, on June 25th for a glamorous night in the Modern Museum of Art. After dinner, guests were treated to a performance by Patti Smith accompanied by her daughter followed by a surprise marching band show by Hungry March Band, and followed by yet another inspiring performance by Yasmine Dubois of Lafawndah. A number of renowned artists attended the event, amongst them Kara Walker, Cindy Sherman, Alexandra Chemla, Richard Phillips and Marc Dennis.
This year's gala marked the third anniversary of the event and was used as an opportunity to honor artists Janet Cardiff, Adrian Villar Rojas, and Patti Smith. Janet Cardiff is an artist from Canada who is known for her sound installations, in particular her "audio walks", for which she often cooperates with her husband and partner, George Bures Miller. Adrián Villar Rojas is a young sculpturist from Rosario, Argentina, who uses predominantly clay and concrete to create works that remind of classical forms inspired by future archaeology. Patti Smith, the "godmother of punk," is widely known for her musical influence on the punk rock movement. Now the MoMA draws more attention to her visual art and photography talent.
The gala gave guests not only a chance to support MoMA PS1, but also to mix and mingle with each other. Marc Dennis was particularly happy to catch up with Amy Cappellazzo, who resigned from her post as Christie's chairman of postwar and contemporary art last February, and has now teamed up with art adviser Allan Schwartzman to form Art Agency Partners. Dennis also shared a table with Sara Friedlander, Vice President at Christie's Auction House and Stephanie Roach, Director of the Flag Art Foundation. Dennis and Roach recently worked together on a Group Exhibition that was hosted by the Manhattan-based Flag Art Foundation in celebration of its 5th Anniversary. Dennis' "The Mythology of the Readymade," was part of the anniversary exhibition, which also included works by Cecily Brown, Ellen Gallagher, Jane Hammond, Nir Hod, Jim Hodges, Wayne Lawrence, Josephine Meckseper, Julie Mehretu, Chris Ofili, Ged Quinn, Charles Ray, Gerhard Richter, Jeff Sonhouse and Mathew Weir.
Marc Dennis' 58 x 72 inches oil on linen painting, which he created in 2013 stood out thanks to its lifelike appearance as though it were an actual sculptural wall relief, which he painted a bouquet in yellow, orange and pink pastels, juxtaposed next to a museum guard dressed in suit and tie. The piece is an excellent example of Dennis' famous hyperrealistic technique, giving his work a three dimensionality that one would see with an actual sculptural motif. Dennis was born in Danvers, Massachusetts, graduated with a B.F.A. from Tyler School of Art of Temple University in Philadelphia and received an M.F.A. in 1993 from The University of Texas at Austin. Today, he lives and works in Brooklyn, New York and is represented with Hasted Kraeutler Gallery in Manhattan. Many of his paintings can be found in private and public collections throughout the world.

With the arrival of the Big Data revolution, a data professional is expected to master a broad spectrum of complex domains including data processing, mathematics, programming languages, machine learning techniques, and business knowledge.
