Interactive Eisenhower Locomotive Exhibit Opening to the Public

Visitors Will Be Immersed in the World War II Era While Exploring Science and History

GREEN BAY, WI--(Marketwired - July 30, 2014) - A new exhibit highlighting the restored Dwight D. Eisenhower locomotive will be open to the public on Saturday, August 2nd at the National Railroad Museum. Visitors will be able to tour areas that were previously closed to the public, including the cab of the Dwight D. Eisenhower locomotive and the interior of General Eisenhower's command train as part of an immersive experience.

"The National Railroad Museum is pleased to exhibit the Dwight D. Eisenhower locomotive and the two passenger cars that General Eisenhower used during World War II. Internationally acclaimed, we are proud to be the Museum where it may be enjoyed by the community, allowing veterans, school children and families to explore and learn about this important part of our history," said Jacqueline Frank, the Museum's Executive Director.

The National Railroad Museum loaned the historic piece to the National Railway Museum of York, England in 2012 for "The Great Gathering" an exhibit of A4 Class locomotives. As part of the loan agreement, the train underwent a cosmetic restoration. It rejoins two restored British passenger cars once used by General Eisenhower during WWII as a mobile command center.

"Even before this major exhibit opened, the Dwight D. Eisenhower locomotive captured the imaginations of those in the United States and abroad. One of just six A4 locomotives left in the world, and the only one in the United States, visitors to the Museum will have the rare opportunity to enter inside the restored cab and the passenger cars, and explore the past in a very physical sense," said Frank.

Illustrating the shared history between the United States and the United Kingdom during World War II, this exhibit focuses on the science behind the design of the unique A-4 class locomotive as well as General Eisenhower's role as the Supreme Allied Commander of the European Theatre. To recreate the look of General Eisenhower's command train, the National Railroad Museum has added armor plating on the London and North Eastern #1592 as part of the restoration process as well as displayed artifacts from that era.

"While entering into the newly armor plated London and North Eastern #1592, visitors are able to set foot inside a passenger car where wartime decisions were made. They will be able to get a sense of what it must have been like traveling through England while the threat of attack was an ever present danger," said Daniel Liedtke, the Museum's Operations Manager / Curator.

Tours for school and adult groups are available for the Dwight D. Eisenhower Locomotive Exhibit at the National Railroad Museum. Programs will interpret both the historic significance and scientific background of the command train and the A4 locomotive. Those interested should contact Bob Lettenberger, Director of Education, at (920) 437-7623 Extension 16.

Marketing efforts for the Dwight D. Eisenhower Locomotive Exhibit were generously supported by a Joint Effort Marketing grant from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. JEM grant funds are available to non-profit organizations for the promotion of Wisconsin tourism events and destinations. For information on the JEM Program and application materials, visit http://industry.travelwisconsin.com.

Founded in 1956, the Museum educates the public through programs, exhibits, and preservation projects about the ongoing impact of railroads in our lives. Visiting the National Railroad Museum offers an opportunity to explore our railroad heritage. The Museum is one of the oldest and largest institutions of its kind in the United States.

DevOps is about increasing efficiency, but nothing is more inefficient than building the same application twice. However, this is a routine occurrence with enterprise applications that need both a rich desktop web interface and strong mobile support. With recent technological advances from Isomorphic Software and others, it is now feasible to create a rich desktop and tuned mobile experience with a single codebase, without compromising performance or usability.
