Emerging Markets Communications Boosts Services, Locations, Inventory and Personnel to Address High Demand for Connectivity Solutions in Brazil

Oil & Gas, Maritime, Telecommunication and Enterprise Companies Require Communications Services in Remote Areas

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL--(Marketwired - July 31, 2014) - Emerging Markets Communications (EMC) announced today its expansion in services, locations, inventory and personnel to respond to an increased demand in connectivity solutions in Brazil. The country has the seventh largest economy worldwide, is the largest of the Latin American nations and is one of the fastest growing. Global companies in the oil and gas, maritime, telecommunications and enterprise verticals are expanding operations in Brazil and require fully managed communications services. Today, EMC provides fully managed, satellite (VSAT) and terrestrial connectivity solutions to over 3,200 remote customer sites in Brazil, both onshore and offshore. This expansion will support the anticipated surge of new customers over the next year.

Global Service. More Local Support.

Companies operating in Brazil seek connectivity providers that offer a variety of satellite coverage options, with local experience, personnel, field support centers and infrastructure, such as teleports and spare parts. Regulations, licensing and customs often present challenges, however companies expect a provider to deploy and support them locally and respond quickly.

EMC operates as a local entity in Brazil as Vodanet Telecommunicaceoes and holds the required licenses from Anatel, both SCM and SLP, to deliver telecommunications services. Additionally, the company holds a license to provide services offshore.

To keep up with increased customer demand and new opportunities, EMC opened several corporate offices and field support centers in Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro and Macae to handle installations, maintenance and on-going support of its regional customers. Engineers are hired and trained locally by EMC and are available 24 x 7 to travel to customer sites. Local Program Managers are also located in these offices to provide an additional level of local customer service.

The end-to-end, fully managed service connectivity services provided in Brazil includes satellite capacity (C-Band and Ku-Band), licensing, equipment, installation and ongoing 24 x 7 technical and field support.

More In-Country Inventory

Telecommunications equipment imported into Brazil must be tested and approved by an accredited Brazilian laboratory and must have a local representative, established according to Brazilian law, which will be responsible for providing the product as well as the necessary warranties in the country. This process can delay the installation or repair process needed to get connectivity services operational.

To get ahead of this process, EMC shipped connectivity equipment, such as stabilized antennas, to Brazil to be tested and certified in advance of customer requirements. This enables EMC to respond immediately to new customer installations and maintenance. Inventory and spare parts are kept at EMC's various field support locations including modems, cables, block-up-converters (BUC), and routers.

Teleport Infrastructure in Brazil and South America

Landing traffic in Brazil/South America is a requirement for customers operating in the region. EMC's Brazilian teleport facilities are located in Belo Horizonte, Sao Paulo and one planned for Rio de Janeiro by the end of the year. These teleports support C-band and Ku-band traffic and provide links to local customer sites. 

EMC also has teleport facilities in Buenos Aires, Argentina with another planned in Neuquen, Argentina by the end of 2014.

Existing Customers in Oil & Gas, Maritime, Technology

While fiber is becoming more readily available in major cities throughout Brazil, rural areas of the country still lack connectivity infrastructure. The oil and gas, maritime and technology industries have operational sites in these areas and need access to applications, the internet, and to communicate with other offices and remote sites.

Oil & Gas

According to the International Energy Agency, the Brazil oil and gas market will triple in production over the next 20 years, becoming one of the top six largest producers by 2035, up from 12th in 2013. Rio de Janeiro is right behind Sao Paulo in Brazil's top economies, and is South America's center for oil and gas exploration, accounting for nearly 80% of Brazil's oil reserves. 

EMC's investments in Brazil through expanded locations, field support centers, inventory and satellite capacity, strategically positions the company to accommodate the projected growth in this market. These fully managed connectivity services are designed for global and local oil and gas companies with onshore rigs, both fixed and mobile, offshore rig, platforms and flotels to leverage in Brazil.

Maritime

EMC's existing license to provide services offshore uniquely positions the company to provide connectivity solutions to both the maritime and offshore oil and gas industry.

Technology & Telecom

Technology and telecom providers are seeking partners to drive their own revenue as application development, bundled offerings from TV services, cable and internet protocol service permissions and innovative mobile connectivity solutions increase in availability and demand from end users.
