Goldman Small Cap Research Calls Recent Downturn the Beginning of Market Correction

BALTIMORE, Aug. 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Goldman Small Cap Research, a stock market research firm focused on the small cap and micro cap sectors, announced today that in conjunction with its July 30th research blog citing the commencement of a market correction, the company has released a detailed report entitled: A Stock Market Correction Survival Guide.  The report provides context and background regarding the current investing environment and offers varied approaches to surviving a stock market correction. The full report may be read or downloaded free of charge on the company's website, www.GoldmanResearch.com.

In the July research blog and the just released report, senior analyst Rob Goldman outlines his investment thesis which includes tough sledding ahead in August and the fall, prior to a typical year-end rally led by small caps and microcaps, the most beaten down category.

"On July 30th, we viewed early economic and market events as a signal that the stock market rally was officially over and that we entered a corrective phase a week earlier when the S&P 500 Index reached the 1991 mark. The combination of Wednesday's economic events with Thursday's Argentina default news along with inflation, valuation, and earnings concerns prompted the biggest stock selloff in months and only affirms the thesis made in the blog."

"In our new report we note that the start of a major correction (of 10% or more from a recent high) commences in response to multiple events, such as the events described above.  For now, we may have difficulty just getting through the month of August. After all, from 2001 – 2013, when there have been declines, the average drop has been 4.3 percent. In the meantime, sectors that may outperform include securities that have an inverse relationship with stocks such as gold, which could mount a comeback this year. Another approach is to determine which stocks were unscathed during the bloodbath and put them on your watch list as potential investments.  One may also find that are GARP-type stocks in economically sensitive sectors, or in consumer and technology become attractive."
