FOOTHILL RANCH, Calif., Aug. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Infinite Hero Foundation (IHF) today announced the inaugural Veterans Innovation Summit for Investing & Technology (VISIT) that will educate, engage and inspire organizations and individuals to examine how to accelerate the rehabilitation and recovery of U.S. military veterans through emerging technology and medical advances. Set to take place Sept. 15-16, VISIT will provide a forum for leaders from various industry sectors to share best practices and ideas for cooperative efforts aimed at improving the mental and physical recovery for returning military veterans.
"VISIT is an exciting endeavor for Infinite Hero Foundation as it will help further propel innovation, accessibility and collaboration among organizations combating the most critical issues facing the returning military community," said Colin Baden, Oakley CEO and Infinite Hero Foundation board president. "We are honored by the caliber of panelists and attendees at the forefront of innovation who have committed to joining this momentous gathering of minds and hope their involvement will spark a much-needed dialogue about how to best serve our veterans with cutting-edge technology and progressive thinking."
Hosted by lnfinite Hero Foundation, the two-day summit will be held at Oakley's global headquarters in Foothill Ranch, Calif. and feature engaging presentations and discussions that address mental and physical recovery for veterans following combat. In addition to tackling challenging issues such as war trauma to the mind and body, carefully curated presentations on topics such as the civilian-military disconnect will facilitate productive discussions with a shared goal to foster resilience and well-being among heroic veterans and unwavering support from American citizens and corporations.
The summit will feature thought-leading presentations on topics including:
Cutting-Edge Counseling Programs
Supporting the personal, social and academic needs of military-connected children affected by war-related impacts and injuries is vital to helping military families transition and cope with everything from multiple deployments, high suicide rates to civilian-life transition. Dr. Anthony Hassan, clinical associate professor and director, USC Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans and Military Families and Patricia Driscoll, CEO, Frontline Defense Systems, LLC and president and executive director, Armed Forces Foundation, will lead a lively discussion around what is needed to foster resiliency and the continuum of care for the future. Dr. Hassan will also introduce some cutting edge artificial intelligence models being used to train the next generation of military social workers.
Bionic Bodies: The Future of Human Mobility
A new generation of bionics is restoring touch and natural movement to those who have lost a limb, transforming the lives of thousands of injured veterans. Attendees will hear about the future of human mobility from a panel of engineers, scientists and doctors at the forefront of tomorrow's techniques.
Helping veterans return home, heal and rebuild their lives takes more than good intentions: It's all in the numbers. New philanthropic models offer scalable solutions for measurement and accountability in philanthropic investment, but what constitutes the best approaches? Panelists explore how deploying capital in business and philanthropy must follow similar rules – and how both can create lasting social impact.
Healing the Warrior Brain
The brain is the coordination center of sensation, nervous and intellectual activity that drives our reality. Extreme emotional trauma, a severe physical blow to the head and actions in battle that contradict personal moral beliefs often result in disorders and injuries that haunt veterans long after they return from war zones. Experts in brain imaging will outline the cause and effect of post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and moral injury, setting the stage for a discussion about the technologies and treatments being developed to evaluate and rehabilitate sufferers.
Resiliency, Recovery and Renewal
In recovery from injury and trauma, the human mind can play a key role in renewing the body's energy—physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. Dr. Jim Loehr, who has researched and developed a science-based model for the Holistic Energy System for three decades, will apply his findings to veterans and the military, providing practical, performance-based guidance to strengthen physical, mental and emotional resilience.

There's Big Data, then there's really Big Data from the Internet of Things. IoT is evolving to include many data possibilities like new types of event, log and network data. The volumes are enormous, generating tens of billions of logs per day, which raise data challenges. Early IoT deployments are relying heavily on both the cloud and managed service providers to navigate these challenges. In her session at Big Data Expo®, Hannah Smalltree, Director at Treasure Data, discussed how IoT, Big D...

WebRTC defines no default signaling protocol, causing fragmentation between WebRTC silos. SIP and XMPP provide possibilities, but come with considerable complexity and are not designed for use in a web environment. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Matthew Hodgson, technical co-founder of the Matrix.org, discussed how Matrix is a new non-profit Open Source Project that defines both a new HTTP-based standard for VoIP & IM signaling and provides reference implementations.

Scott Jenson leads a project called The Physical Web within the Chrome team at Google. Project members are working to take the scalability and openness of the web and use it to talk to the exponentially exploding range of smart devices. Nearly every company today working on the IoT comes up with the same basic solution: use my server and you'll be fine. But if we really believe there will be trillions of these devices, that just can't scale. We need a system that is open a scalable and by using ...

Fundamentally, SDN is still mostly about network plumbing. While plumbing may be useful to tinker with, what you can do with your plumbing is far more intriguing. A rigid interpretation of SDN confines it to Layers 2 and 3, and that's reasonable. But SDN opens opportunities for novel constructions in Layers 4 to 7 that solve real operational problems in data centers. "Data center," in fact, might become anachronistic - data is everywhere, constantly on the move, seemingly always overflowing. Net...
